Craig Martelle is an urban fantasy and science fiction author from Alaska. Martelle makes use of his business consulting career, his legal education, and more than two decades of experience in the Marine Corps to write some interesting stories with very believable characters. Looking at his marine and legal consulting careers, it would have been hard to ever think that he would one day become a bestselling science fiction author. Once he left the Marine Corps, he thought he should better find something to do with his life and went to law school. Thereafter he got into legal consulting for businesses and for seven years, he worked with Fortune 100 companies. When Craig retired from consulting he believed it was time to write the novel he had always wanted to write. “Nightwalker” his debut novel would take him 61 days to write and his second only twenty-eight days which would become the average time he took to write his novel once he got into a rhythm. Martelle has said that he loves writing material that contains a lot of action, flows quickly, and is easy to read. More often than not, he sets a target of 2700 words to write on any given day though he sometimes goes up to 3200 every day. His structured approach to writing comes from his days as a business consultant where he was often hired to improve processes for companies.

Like many of his contemporaries, Craig Martelle loved writing from a very young age and would walk around with a book during his teen and young adult years. He still has hundreds of novels loaded onto his phone which he would often read on his deployments. Growing up, some of his favorite authors included the likes of Robert E. Howard, Robert Heinlein, JRR Tolkien, and Anne McCaffrey. Martelle is humbled to be compared to the likes of Andre Norton and he has said that she has been an inspiration to him. Through a bizarre series of circumstances, he would find himself living in the small town of Fairbanks in Alaska where the winter nights are long and dark. He never did expect that he would one day retire to a town whose golf courses are open only a quarter of the time but he has adapted. However, Craig gets much pleasure watching the northern lights with his wife not forgetting the three twenty-four house of daylight three months a year in the summer.

Craig Martelle had been a full-time author since 2015 and had his first real success in 2016. It was in 2016 that he published several titles in the “Free Trader” series and another under a traditional publisher. He saw his traditionally published novels as a separate revenue pillar even though much of his success has come from his self-published novels. His traditionally published novels have done well but they do not hold a candle to his indie novels. While it may seem that Martelle’s journey to publishing was relatively smooth, nothing could be further from the truth. By the time he had published more than four hundred thousand words over five novels, he had yet to make even a thousand dollars. But then things got better when he got professional editing, covers, and wrote more titles. He decided to write in the Space Opera, Urban Fantasy, and Post-Apocalyptic genres as these are what she has always loved to read. Moreover, given how popular the genres are, he found it better to be a little fish in a big pond as he can sell more books.

   Imagine my surprise after down loading your book based on Chena Hot Springs road on my Kindle in Diego Madagascar to take to my mud hut home in a remote village. From ’82-92 I lived one mile above Two Rivers flying bush out of Chena marina. Its along way from there to the little village of Moventie Boe where I have a free medical clinic and school in Madagascar. madaclinics keep up your writing it sure gives me many hours of reading.
