Early and Personal Life

During the early part of the 1960s, Craig Stephen Copland would begin nurturing a passion for the mysteries of Sherlock Holmes. Attending high school in Toronto, his teachers would encourage him while he continued to read his older brother’s copies of Holmes mysteries. Later graduating from the University of Toronto, he would major in English there, developing his style and literary voice.

Traveling extensively following working as a high-school English teacher for some time, he gained a wealth of experience. All of this would go back into his work, establishing his own voice and unique outlook on writing mysteries for a mass audience. Living between Toronto, New York, Buenos Aires, and the Okanagan Valley, he continues to write regularly.

Writing Career

Starting his literary career back in 2014, Craig Stephen Copland would come a long way fast with his long-running ‘New Sherlock Holmes Mysteries’ series. Beginning with the self-contained story ‘Studying Scarlet,’ he’d take the classic characters of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson and give them a whole new set of cases to solve. With over fifty-one books so far and counting, the series continues to evolve and grow as time goes on, along with some omnibus editions of the series as well.

In 2016 Copland would begin his ‘Reverend Ezekiel Black Western Mystery’ series too, which would feature a whole new character in the lead. A vital member of the ‘Sherlock Holmes Society of Canada,’ aka the ‘Toronto Bootmakers,’ he’s more than well versed in the iconic character. Winning a contest for his Holmes-inspired fiction, too, he continues to write, as he’s definitely not stopping any time soon.

The Sign of the Tooth

First coming out back in 2014, this would initially be published on the 25th of August, with it being the fifth title in the long-running series of ‘New Sherlock Holmes Mysteries.’ Featuring a further mystery for Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson to solve, it uses the classic characters in a newly written story. Published through the Kindle platform initially, it managed to bring the iconic characters to life once more for fans and newcomers alike.

Fifteen hundred years ago, the sacred tooth of Buddha was taken across to Ceylon, leading to it being brought to London from the Temple of Tooth all these years later. Now a young woman enters 221B Baker’s Street with news that her father, his closest friend, and another young medical student of his have all died. Looking for the help of the famous Sherlock Holmes, he and Dr. Watson seek to get to the bottom of the mystery. Does someone wish to take the Buddha tooth, who is behind the mysterious deaths, and just what is the sign of the tooth?

Anyone who has an affinity for Holmes and Watson will appreciate this book and the rest of the mystery series. Crafting an intriguing mystery, the book keeps the reader guessing every step of the way, constantly turning the page. It’s not only a story for fans, but newcomers too, as it’s easy to pick up yet difficult to put down, and the books can be read in any order.

The Adventure of the Prioress’s Tale

Originally brought out through the ‘Conservative Growth Inc.’ publishing label, this would be the thirty-fourth book in the ongoing ‘New Sherlock Holmes Mysteries.’ Continuing on with another stand-alone mystery for Holmes and Watson to solve, it provides a further self-contained narrative for them both. Released in 2028 on the 13th of October, it carries on in much the same vein as before, with the books not needing to be read in order again.

Heading to Dover for what was to be a simple beach holiday, an all-girls hockey team from an elite girl’s school mysteriously goes missing. With many outcomes of their disappearance, from running off to Paris to being abducted and held to ransom, the clock is ticking to locate them. Stepping up to the task, Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson will solve the case and save the day, hopefully bringing them back to safety. Will they both be able to find them all in time, where did they all disappear to, and what will become of the adventure of the Prioress’s tale?

Following on in the tradition of another great Sherlock mystery, this is more than up to the task of continuing his adventures. With an engaging plot and an intriguing mystery, it really manages to carry it forwards with a real sense of confidence. Building upon what came before, this is easy to read and highly accessible, making for an intelligent and compelling inclusion into the series.

I just discovered your books through the audio publishings of the New Sherlock Holmes series and I want to tell you that I find your work better than the originator of the well-known duo. As a senior, I appreciate the availability of such quality stories via an audio format. THANK YOU!
