Hot Rod Hamster Meets His Match

Originally coming out on the 26th of January in 2016, this would first come out through the Scholastic Press publishing label. The seventh book to be read in the ‘Hot Rod Hamster’ series of children’s books, it provides another story featuring the eponymous Hamster. Illustrated by Derek Anderson, it’s a stand-alone title with an engaging story aimed at young children learning to read for the first time.

Heading off to the Water Kingdom water park, Hamster and his new friend Holly go ahead and challenge two dogs to a race. Using the water park with his friends, Hamster hopes to win the water slide race, all whilst making the most of water park. With the sun out and everyone looking to have fun, the friends will all enjoy their time together on the rapid water slides. This time a group of sato puppies have arrived for the Shelter Pet Squad to take care of, as their homeless dogs from Puerto Rico. Taking care of them until they’re adopted, Suzannah looks after a dog named Paloma, and soon she finds herself really caring for the small dog. Soon though, the dogs are to be adopted, which upsets Suzannah as she really doesn’t want to say goodbye to Paloma. Is there a way they can make everyone happy, will she be able to say goodbye, and what will become of Paloma?

Aimed at second grade children, this is an accessible read that adults will enjoy reading with younger children. Helping them learn to read for the first time, this is definitely a heartfelt story that will draw its audience in, and is sure to give them an interest in reading.
