The book was published by Spencer Hill in 2014 and has been translated into Spanish. A second novel in the series, Under the Lights published was in 2015. Behind the Scenes

Behind the Scenes is the first book in Daylight Falls Series. For high school senior Ally Duncan, her best friend Vanessa Park may be the lead character of a popular TV teen drama, but Ally is not interested in following her best friend’s footsteps. The only thing that she ever wanted was to go to Columbia and then travel to study in Paris. But when her father’s increasing medical bills threaten to stop her dreams from ever becoming a reality, Ally grabs a position as Vanessa’s on-set assistant to get the money she needs.

Spending more time with Vanessa turns out to be more fun, and slowly starting to know better her handsome co-star Liam is a bonus. However things spiral out of control for Ally as actors’ publicist plans for Liam and Van to “date” for the tabloids son after Liam and Ally share their first kiss. Ally will be forced to decide on the type of role she is capable of playing in their world of make-believe. If she cannot abide by Hollywood’s rules, she may lose her job, her friend, her future, and her shot at love.

Dahlia Adler has done a fantastic job in her first novel in the Daylight Falls series. The pacing is beautifully done, and the characters themselves are relatable such that you’ll find yourself attached to them. The books feel like a coming of age story because the characters themselves evolve, they learn, they make mistakes along the way, they try again until they achieve what they want. The book also boasts an adorable and gradual romance. You’ll love reading about the absolute imperfect Liam who’ll turn on any woman just by reading about his descriptions. Beyond the general romance, Behind the Scenes deals with the insecure balance that we have to find between the relationship we have with people we love and how we can stand for ourselves without forgetting their desires and needs. It teaches us that we should learn to understand that not everything will work according to our desires, but that’s life.

Under the Lights

Under the Lights is the second book in Daylight Falls Series by Dahlia Adler. We are introduced to Josh Chester, a Hollywood charming bad boy coasting on his parties, good looks, parents’ wealth, and his frequent modeling gig. However his laid back lifestyle is about to change. In order to help his friend, Liam, he signs up for a television show, Daylight Falls, on contract to Vanessa Park, the only one character who’s immune to his charms. In the meantime, his drama-queen mother forces him into a new family reality show, with Josh playing the lead character role. Now that he is in the spotlight, Josh has to decide whether a life as a celebrity is what he wants.

Vanessa has always been sure about her life as an actor, even though her parents never wanted her to be an actor. But with all her relationships currently in turmoil, she is not entirely sure about what life holds for her. When she finally meets her career handler Brianna, Vanessa is happy to have found someone whom she can rely on, now that her best friend, Ally is in college on the other side of the country. But soon their feelings of friendship evolve beyond their expected levels, and she will have to choose between what she has always loved and the one person she never thought she could love.

Under the lights is the second novel in Daylight Falls Series, and can be read as a standalone though it’s recommended to read the first in the series to get a better understanding. Even if you’ve not read the first book, this book itself will inspire you to go back to the first book. While the book itself deals with some critical issues, it’s a fun book to read. The story immerses you into a world featuring LGBTQIA plus some exciting characters that will have you hooked from the first page to the last. This is not a tale about Hollywood kids hooking up and partying. The characters themselves and the situations they find themselves have depth that every non-Hollywood folk can relate to- issues with parents, long-distance relationships, uncertainty of the future, and self-discovery. And while Josh takes up a large part of the story, it’s Brianna and Vanessa who are the real ones to watch here. You’ll love how their relationship develops. For Vanessa, who had never thought she would ever fall in love with girls before, falling in love with Bri is a surprise, not only for her but also for the readers. Everything about how she shared her truth, processed her feelings, and how she embraced her identity is fantastic. She is conflicted and afraid, but she knows that she has completely fallen in love with Bri. They form a solid bond and are open and supportive of each other and watching them fall in love with each other is so much fun.
