Dan Walsh is a bestselling and award-winning American writer of historical fiction, contemporary, suspense, and inspirational novels. His career is comprised of 21 books, including the widely successful When Night Comes, The Reunion, and The Unfinished Gift. The book series written by Walsh include The Homefront series, Restoration series, A Forever Home series, and the Jack Turner series. Walsh has won three Carol Awards and has been its finalist for a total of six times. He has also won the Selah Award four times and has been a finalist for the Inspirational Book of the Year prize by RT Reviews on four occasions. Author Walsh is a member of Word Weavers International and the ACFW. He has been happily married to his wife named Cindi for more than four decades. Walsh writes full time from his home located in the Daytona Beach area.
Walsh was born in 1957 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He hails from a hardworking, blue-collar Irish family. Walsh’s dad was the first individual in both families to go to college and obtain a degree. He spent nine years to earn the degree as he used to work in the daytime and spend his night time in college. When Walsh’s father was hired by GE for the space program of Apollo in the 60s, his family relocated to Florida. It is where Walsh spent a large part of his childhood. During high school, the primary interests of Walsh were surfing and basketball. Though his family used to attend church prayers every Sunday, he did not attain Christianity until the senior year.
In 1976, Walsh met the love of his life, Cindi, and married her. The couple now has two children and four grandchildren. In 1977, Walsh showed an interest in pastoral ministry and began preparing and studying for the next few years. He was ordained with the title of a pastor in 1985 and spent the next 25 years serving in the same church. By 2010, three of his books had been released by a major publishing company and achieved success. So, he decided to quit the pastoral ministry and settled down as a full-time writer. The novels of author Walsh have received critical and popular acclaim. They have received praise from USA Today and have earned rave reviews from various literary magazines such as Library Journal, RT Book Reviews, Publisher’s Weekly, and BookList.
Walsh’s first book, The Unfinished Gift, won a couple of Carol Awards. More than ten years after its first release, it is still being printed and has sold more than 75,000 copies so far. Several other books penned by Walsh have also appeared on various national bestseller lists and have won many prestigious awards. The first thirteen books of his career were published by the Revell & Guideposts publication with traditional publishing. In 2014, he decided to try and publish his next novel as an indie book when he saw that many readers were getting books online. Being an indie author, Walsh feels that he has the freedom and liberty to write both suspense and inspirational novels. His suspense novels contain an element of romance and depict animals playing important roles. They have received immense success in all the places of their release.
In addition to writing novels, Walsh likes public speaking very much. He is often called at writers’ conferences to speak his mind or undertake seminars and workshops on various writing topics. Recently, Walsh has started taking fiction coaching and has found several clients as well. He is grateful for all the genuine reviews and love he has received from his fans and hopes to continue doing the good work of entertaining people through his novels for as long as he can.
A popular book series penned by author Dan Walsh is known as the Jack Turner Suspense series. It began in 2014 and features the main protagonist in the role of Jack Turner. He is described as a professor of history, who gets involved in mysterious cases and gets into his detective shoes to solve them. Other essential characters mentioned in the books of this series include Joe Boyd, Rachel Cook, Nigel Avery, etc. The debut book of this series is entitled ‘When Night Comes’. It was released in 2014 by the Bainbridge Press. The book opens by showing that Jack Turner travels to Culpepper, Georgia to deliver lectures on behalf of his old professor. Soon after, he starts getting bizarre experiences during the night. As the days pass by, Jack is not able to control the strange experiences or stop them.
Joe Boyd is introduced as a detective, who comes to Culpepper from Pittsburgh with the hope of leaving his past behind. Joe’s hope of peace gets shattered when he learns about the death of 2 students in 2 weeks. Rachel Cook works as a teaching assistant. Seeing Jack back in Culpepper makes her happy more than anyone else as she has a secret crush on him from her teenage years. Jack seems attracted to Rachel, but she senses that he is feeling troubled by something. Nigel Avery keeps a close watch on the lives of all three of them. He waits for the time to tie the loose ends when the experiment unravels.
The second volume of the series is called ‘Remembering Dresden’. It was also published by the Bainbridge publication in 2016. This novel opens by mentioning that Jack Turner takes a retreat on the outskirts of Culpepper to focus all his concentration on the doctoral dissertation. The cabin in which he stays is owned by a state senator. Everything inside the cabin is kept the way it was 10 years ago when the father of the senator died. During off time, Jack Turner takes a look at some old photos and books of the senator’s father. He comes across an album containing black & white pictures of orphan kids. As his intrigue builds, he searches for more and finds evidence related to a murder. Jack also finds a handwritten leather journal containing German transcripts. When Jack approaches Rachel to translate the journal, something dangerous is revealed that puts the lives of both of them in danger.
