Suspense novels have been a staple in libraries for decades. The adventure and whodunit books of the past and future are relative to the society we live in today. Life is full of intensity and suspense is in every corner of life. Authors for many years have written about real life suspense and turned those experiences or thoughts into fictional works of art in their storytlling. The need for good versus evil and good always winning, the need for our modern day hero’s and crime fighters. This brings me to the modern day author of the genre of suspense and mystery novels Dana Mentink.
Dana Mentink has come from a place that likely has many subjects and facts of everyday suspense in life in the Golden State of California. Dana grew up in the California, and her career before becoming an author was being in theatre and reviewing cookbooks for the local newspaper. Dana now lives in the small area of Monterrey Bay in California. It’s a quaint little area nestled away from the big cities. California seems to be a breeding ground for many suspense and mystery novelists. Dana Mentink has won many awards such as the ACFW Carol Award winner. She has been nominated for the American Christian Fiction Writers Book of the Year for many of her novels throughout the years. Other noticeable mentions would be for being recognized by many writer’s guilds and alliances.
Dana Mentink takes great importance in her faith, which is a hobby of hers, as well as many Christian functions and gatherings. Of course this hobby goes hand in hand with speaking, which is yet another great hobby and activity that Dana finds solace in. She once was quoted as saying that to be an author, you have to know how to deal with and handle stress, for her stress relief comes from prayer and spiritual service to others. Dana has two children, both teenagers. She surely get inspiration from the two of them.
One thing about Dana Mentink is that she is never satisfied, she will always strive to do better in her art and until she becomes satisfied, we will continue to enjoy her novels, her works of art. Dana was once asked if she is jealous of fellow authors that have had major success. Her reply was priceless. She told the questioner that she knows what it takes to be an author and how much rejection goes with the territory, which builds you up to having some thick skin for rejection, as you get rejected a lot. To get published is very hard work and requires great strides to not give up, so no she is not jealous of other success when she herself has gone thru the pain to be an author.
Dana began her writing career with the release of a novel, which she has many, but specifically this one is aptly called “Trouble Up Finney’s Nose”. This is a story of Ruth, a woman recently widowed, and as the story goes, she found her dead husband murdered. She is quite the lady whom is not your typical caper rouser. She is surrounded by a group of mishap characters throughout the book. One such character is her hairdresser whom seems to be one of the most important people in Ruth’s life. When her hairdresser goes to Fiji on vacation, Ruth loses her mind over how she looks, but not all is fun and games for Ruth, as she eventually has to face a do or die situation, which involves the death of her hubby.
As it turns out this character would be a staple in a series of Trouble Up Finney’s Nose Mysteries. Trouble Up Finney’s Nose Mysteries is a series that is centered around this widower named Ruth.
Another terrific work of art by Dana Mentink is “Lost Legacy”. This fictional tale is about a stranger PI and a women looking for answers in a painting, and throughout the entire novel, these characters are partners. To set the stage, Brook Ramsey is trying to save her fathers reputation before he succumbs to death from illness, but this means she has to find her fathers missing painting. In looking she emlists the ehlp from this PI whom is also looking for more than this painting, he is looking for answers to his wifes murder. Low and behold the painting holds the key to this answer. The issue as they draw closer together in finding this painting and the answers they so desperately need, the closer to the murderer they get, which is something this killer will kill to keep secret. The final twist in this sadistic mystery and suspense plot will leave you speechless and wanting more from this amazing author Dana Mentink.
Dana Mentink is happily married to a wonderful husband, whom she met in a theatre production aptly called the velveteen rabbit, in which they played husband and wife. Her husband is a retired firefighter in California, where they reside with their two children. Dana still writes her novels in the Golden State as of today. She is constantly working on new novels and series. We would be remiss to not bring up the fact that Al is an avid coffee drinker and is a self-described coffee snob. You can read her novels in many formats, from audio tape, hard back, paper back and the latest and greatest format that our youth and tech savvy people love is thru kindle and other e-readers from Amazon and Android.
Dana is also an award writing journalist for the local newspaper and an avid cookbook critic for the same newspaper. She is also very much into faith based writing and will always be seen writing to her faith. She can be seen on social media such as Facebook, Twitter and even has a YouTube channel. She writes often in her blog where she can be seen giving away books in contests she often has. She is very inspirational in her writing and loves interacting with her readers and fans.
Dana’s latest award was the 2015 Heart of Excellence Finalist for Return to Pelican Inn and is always nominated for other awards and recognitions for her work. She even has many accolades from Amazon Bookstore.
