Danielle Valentine
Danielle Valentine spent her childhood hiding underneath the covers as her mom retold stories from the pages of Stephen King’s novels. Now that she is an adult, she can count on one hand the number of times in her entire life that she has been afraid.

She also writes “The Merciless” series as Danielle Vega. She also publishes under the names Danielle Rollins and Ellie Rollins. Her novels have been translated into numerous languages, including Russian, German, French, Spanish, and many others.

While Danielle is honored over the comparisons to “Rosemary’s Baby”, she says she was more inspired by “Alien”, the 1979 science fiction/horror flick.

As the topic of “Alien” resurfaced, Valentine was six months pregnant with a daughter, prompting her to start working on a thriller concept, which she scrapped since it started feeling cliché with characters that just fell flat. Then she and her husband started having conversations about this other story, while still keeping “Alien” as the reference.

Danielle feels “Alien” is a movie about pregnancy, however it is written by a man that does not understand that that is what he is actually writing about. The movie is what happens when a guy starts thinking what the scariest thing he can come up with. And the idea is what if you’re growing a creature inside you that uses your resources to get larger and it’s got this mind of its own, and bursts outta you one day in a bloody mess. When she first saw it when she was just a kid, it didn’t occur to her that is basically what pregnancy is too, however when she was six months pregnant, it finally dawned on her that “Alien” is a pregnancy story without the actual pregnancy part. It was the seed right there.

In just an hour, she came up with the ideas for this story, then she made sure they had not been explored before by checking “Rosemary’s Baby”.

In addition to “Alien”, Stephen King, and stories like “The Handmaid’s Tale”, along with several other works inspired “Delicate Condition”.

“How to Survive Your Murder” is the first stand alone novel and was released in 2022. “Happy Death Day” meets “Scream” in this horrifying stand alone horror book from Danielle Valentine, a YA scream queen.

Alice Lawrence is the only witness in her sister’s murder trial.

And in the year since Claire died, Alice’s whole life has fallen apart completely. She has moved into an apartment that smells like bologna. Her parents divorced. And she is being forced to face down her sister’s killer and a courtroom filled with people that doubt what she saw in the corn maze one year ago.

Claire was this all-American girl, all bubbly and beautiful, and was a theater star. Alice was just a nerd that dreamed about becoming a forensic pathologist and would much rather stay at home to watch her favorite horror films that to party. Despite their differences, they were still bonded by their sisterhood and were each other’s best friends.

Until Claire got taken away from her.

While Alice is preparing to give testimony, on the murder trial’s first day, she gets knocked out by a Sidney Prescott look-alike while she’s in the courthouse bathroom. When she wakes up, it is Halloween night one year prior, the exact same day that Claire was murdered. Alice only has until midnight to save her sister and find the real killer before he is able to claim another victim.

This is a chilling and unpredictable, and is a meta must-read for thrill seekers and horror fans. Danielle’s twisty and tense story packs a whollop. Readers are going to tear through these pages to learn what happens next. This horrifying novel reads a lot like a horror film. It’s got the shocks, screams, and suspense of ten horror films in one. This is some great nasty fun.

“Delicate Condition” is the second stand alone novel and was released in 2023. “The Silent Patient” meets “The Push” in this gripping thriller which follows a woman that is convinced there is a sinister figure going to great lengths to make sure that her pregnancy never happens. And all while the men in her life refuse to believe a single word she says.

Anna Alcott is desperate to start a family. However while she attempts to balance her increasingly public life as an Indie actress with a pretty grueling IVF journey, she begins suspecting that somebody is trying incredibly hard to make sure this never happens. Appointments get swapped without her knowing about it. Vital medicines get lost. Cryptic warnings have her jumping at shadows. And despite everything that she has gone to in order to make this pregnancy a reality, not even her own husband is willing to believe that somebody is playing these twisted games with her.

And then, her doctor tells her that she has had a miscarriage, but Anna is convinced that she is still pregnant despite everything the grave-faced guys around her claim. She can still feel the baby moving around inside of her, is able to see the strain that it is taking upon her weakening body. Vague warnings turn into direct threats as somebody stalks her through the bleak ghost town of the snowy Hamptons. While her sense of danger and her symptoms grow even more terrifying, she cannot help but wonder what she is carrying inside of her. And why nobody will listen to her when she says that something is painfully and horribly wrong with her.

Danielle delivers a twisty, page turner with some crackling writing and unsettling details which is also a timely critique of sexism in modern medicine. Readers found this to be a propulsive and frightening read that brims with some brutal truths about autonomy, motherhood, and the everyday horrors of not being believed. It’s a twisty horror thriller which is going to have you guessing until its staggering conclusion. The novel is unbearably tense, deeply scary, and beautifully written. It’s a modern fairy tale which asks what we would be willing to sacrifice for the things that we want the most.

This is a fabulously original read that is deeply unsettling which plays on women’s darkest fears of pregnancy.
