The debut book of the Dare Valley series written by author Ava Miles is entitled ‘Nora Roberts Land’. It was self-published by Ava’s publishing company, Ava Miles, Inc. in 2013. The primary characters mentioned in this novel include Tanner McBride, Alan Hale, Meredith Hale, Peggy McBride, Brian McConnell, Jill Hale, etc. Ava has done the plot’s setting in Dare Valley, Colorado, United States. The story begins by introducing Meredith Hale as a journalist. She believed her former husband when he told her that his addiction of Nora Roberts gave unrealistic expectations related to marriage. And just like that all her dreams of having a happy married life were shattered. Later, when Meredith’s family asks her to return to Dale Valley and assist in running the family newspaper, she sees it as an opportunity to bring change in her life and prove her ex-husband wrong. Meredith is determined to find her small town hero, just like in Nora Roberts books. She intends to prove to others, especially her ex-husband that true love does exist. She also intends to write and publish a manuscript based on her quest.

At this point in the story, Tanner McBride is introduced as a war correspondent. He returns home to start working for a newspaper agency. He does not expect to get indulged in blackmail. And even before Tanner can unpack, his boss hand him the assignment of making his ex-wife fall in love with him and then give her a heartbreak. Tanner’s boss fears that if his ex-wife Meredith Hale’s book about marriage gets published, it will cause a negative impact on his business and will endanger his hopes of running for the senate. So, he asks Tanner to complete his assignment at any cost. When Tanner finally meets Meredith, sparks begin to fly between them. Meredith had promised herself that she would not date a journalist again. But, seeing Tanner and feeling his charm makes her break the promise. Later, the two get indulged in uncovering the truth about a suspicious death. Being in the company of each other makes them develop feelings that neither of them can deny. They decide it is time for them to reveal each other secrets and accept one another with all their heart. Both Meredith and Tanner become dedicated to overcome the difficulties and cherish the love that they were destined to have.

Another exciting book penned in this series is called ‘The Town Square’. It was also released in 2013. The book consists of the central characters as Arthur Hale and Harriet Jenkins. The opening sequence of the story depicts Arthur Hale as a hardworking journalist. When the arrival of 1960 shows the promise of a positive change for the next decade, Arthur Hale shows the determination of being on its forefront. With his reputation of a successful journalist in NYC, Arthur comes back to his Dare Valley hometown in Colorado to start his own newspaper. He hopes to use this newspaper for channeling the West’s voice. And in the future, he hopes that his newspaper joins the ranks of popular papers like The Chicago Tribune and The NY Times. Arthur Hale’s dream and ambition make him get isolated from everyone. He indulges himself in his dream so much that he takes up a self-imposed solitude. And the only person having the ability to break this solitude of Arthur Hale and get him out of it is his mysterious and talented secretary named Harriet Jenkins. Arthur suspects that the mysterious nature of Harriet Jenkins is due to some secret that she is hiding from him. But, in spite of that he cannot keep himself away from the complicated and beautiful redhead. It is later revealed in the plot that Harriet Jenkins’ real name is Harriet Wentworth.

Arthur Hale had written an article in the newspaper that had ruined Harriet’s father and destroyed her family name. She has changed her last name and has arrived in Arthur’s life to take revenge. Being close to Arthur Hale for most hours of the day, Harriet begins to learn more about the man and she realizes that he is not actually a monster. Harriet learns Arthur likes to uncover the truth at any cost and shows integrity in his life and work. Arthur’s real nature makes Harriet start respecting him and doesn’t realize when she fell in love with him. Harriet shows the willingness to reveal her real identity to Arthur, but wonders how he will react? She also wonders whether Arthur will accept her and agree to build a future founded on ugly truths and lies?

They are short(er) stories/novellas. It’s something a lot of authors to these days is do short stories/novellas only in ebook format.
