David enlisted in the Navy in December of 1967 and in 1977 made Chief Petty Officer. David enjoys basketball but while he appreciates the sport it apparently does not love him back anymore and says that some pickup game teams prefer to play five on four as opposed to having him come off of the bench to play.
He is a native of Georgia and grew up in Sargent, a small cotton mill. He is married to his wife Felicity of England. The pair reside in Maryland and he says that his wife has received a lot of accolades for staying with him for all of these years.
