Author Deb Kastner picked up her very first Harlequin romance when she was eleven years old, and has been hooked on them ever since. Deb loves writing romantic comedies, contemporary romances, and cowboy romances set in small western towns.

For many years, when her kids were young, she wrote articles. She did not have enough self confidence to even consider writing something fiction, yet her husband still believed in her and pushed her to write what she liked reading. She joined Romance Writers of America, learned more about the craft, and sold off her first book under two years later.

Even though it was always her dream to pen the books that she loved, it was not until January of 1996 that she finally got the courage up to start writing. And her first novel, called “Beloved”, came to fruition in August of 1998.

She feels blessed to have the chance to write inspirational category romances for Harlequin’s Steeple Hill Love Inspired imprint. She loves being able to pen love stories which incorporate faith as an integral and natural aspect of her characters’ lives.

Along with writing for Steeple Hill Love Inspired, she teaches various writing courses.

Deb will write through writers’ block, finding that if she writes on days where she feels every single word is terrible, she will return to her work the next day to find it isn’t so bad. Writing is her job, she cannot just not show up for work certain days.

She loves living and creating with her characters, sharing her faith through her stories. She also loves writing full time because of the freedom it allow her to be where she needs to be when I need to be there, even if her deadlines can get somewhat tight.

Inspiration comes from all around her and from within her, however when it comes time to turn her muse on and get working, it is music that helps get her in the creative zone. She is a huge Texas Tenors fan and their playlist is her absolute favorite for her.

The lord is her biggest inspiration and there is just a little bit of her own real life hero husband in each one of her heroes. She finds ideas all around her, conversations, characteristics, and circumstances. Her mind and heart somehow inexplicably work together to create new stories and characters.

Her favorite hobby is spoiling her grandkids. Other hobbies include watching movies, reading, listening to music (The High Kings and The Texas Tenors are her favorites), singing in the church choir, and exploring the Rocky Mountains while on horseback.

“Phoebe’s Groom” is the first novel in the “E-mail Order Brides” series and was released in 2011. The smell of apple pie and cinnamon buns remind Chance Hawkins, a widowed dad, of the wife that he lost five years before. So does his sad-eyed little girl.

His aunt hires a new pastry chef, whom she finds on the internet, for their family-owned Texas cafe, the cowboy cook grumbles. What is more, Phoebe Yates, the fancy baker, is boarding in their home as well.

Yet soon enough, kind Phoebe reminds Chance how nice it can be to share a sweet roll with his daughter before she goes to school. Possibly opening his heart up to becoming a groom once more.

“The Soldier’s Sweetheart” is the first novel in the “Serendipity Sweethearts” series and was released in 2013. The single father’s fresh start.
