According to the main character of this book, a young girl named Keiko, seventh grade is where it’s supposed to all turn around. She knows that she has everything that she needs to start the school year off right and isn’t worried at all. She’s got her best friends Jenna and Audrey with her to support her and do everything together. They can go shopping for new clothes to wear, scope out the best spot to sit for lunch, and do fun things once school is out like go to the bubble tea place in town.

The three of them are always ready for anything. They’ve been close for so long that there’s no question that they’ll go through everything together, and that includes seventh grade. That’s what Keiko thinks, anyway. But Audrey suddenly thinks that all of them seem to require boyfriends by their side, and it needs to be done prior to the arrival of the Fall Ball.

All of the friends are used to hanging together all of the time, but now the three of them have a rift. Jenna’s tired of Audrey thinking that she should call the shots, and Keiko is placed in the middle. It’s the last place that she wants to be, but what can she do with the two of them not even talking?

Keiko is crushing on a guy and dreaming of her first kiss, even as her friends are starting to slip away. Could their friendship crumble away and never come back? She feels torn between the two and doesn’t want this to come between them. With middle school to handle, can Keiko get her friends to reunite or will she simply have to move on? Read this book to find out!

Just Be Cool, Jenna Sakai is the followup to ‘Keiko’ by Debbi Michiko Florence. Main character Jenna is devastated when winter break arrives and she gets dumped. That leads to the confirmation of what she found out when her parents split up, that it’s always a risk to enter into a relationship. Start one, and you guarantee that you’re trifling with potential disappointment.

She’s just going to spend the semester studying, even if she does see her ex at newspaper club. But she’s up against Elliott for a scholarship, and her BFF Keiko seems constantly involved with her boyfriend. Can she get to know the annoying but cute Rin Watanabe better and find out what the mystery is about, or is she about to spend the semester on her own? Read this book to find out!
