About Debbie Burke

The American author Debbie Burke is well known for working in a number of different genres, whilst largely focusing herself on her love of Jazz. Writing both fiction and non-fiction, she’s produced a range of different novels over the years, with Jazz music taking precedence for much of it. Creating very real and human stories too, she has strong characters at the heart of each of her novels as well, as they speak in a manner that’s direct and to the point. This has won readers over all around the world, allowing her to establish a style and brand that is quite unlike any other currently out there.

Working as a reporter prior to writing for herself full-time, she’d really come to set herself apart, building an audience for much of her writing. This would develop through the years, evolving into her own unique voice, whilst remaining factual, telling the story in a straightforward manner. Combining this matter of fact approach with grounded characters proved to be a winning formula for many in time, as she went on enjoy a large amount of success. Understanding her subject matter both inside and out, she know what it was that she wanted to say, writing clearly in a direct tone.

With a clear sense of personality at the heart of her stories, she’d have something to say, with clear and idiosyncratic themes and ideas. Infusing her stories with elements of the thriller genre too, she’d keep her readers constantly guessing, whilst being carried along by the Jazz music. The world and stories she creates are highly authentic as well, as she definitely knows what she’s writing about, making for a highly immersive experience. There’s a lot more to come too, as she’s clearly an author with a lot to say, and is definitely worth watching in the years to follow.

Early and Personal Life:

Growing up with a clear passion for the written word, Debbie Burke would be someone that shined when writing from early on. This would be evident in her work, which she gradually developed throughout the years, coming to find a style and approach that was all her own. In time, audiences would follow, as she found a market for her distinctive voice, along with her clear love of Jazz music.

For some time she would work as a reporter, operating freelance for her local newspaper, before going on to become a news columnist. This would allow her to expand upon her audience and reach, before going on to work as editor for a smaller publisher, whereby she would work with a variety of different genres. Still writing to this very day, she’s worked with non-fiction as well, providing plenty of academic pieces alongside her fiction novels.

Writing Career:

Starting out back in 2017, Debbie Burke would begin her literary career with the novel ‘Instrument of the Devil’, which would introduce her as a thriller writer for the first time. It would also begin the ‘Tawny Lindholm Thrillers’ series of novels, paving the way for more to follow, with its gripping mystery premise. Following the amateur sleuth and investigator Tawny Lindholm, it charts her career solving various different mysteries over the course of the series.
There would also be a stand-alone novel titled ‘Glissando’, which would feature Burke’s famous love of Jazz at the heart of it. Working as a stand-alone romance story, it would show another side to her style of writing, allowing her to develop and build upon her brand as a writer. With plenty more titles planned for the future, Burke continues to work, whilst speaking both online and off about her craft in various different capacities.

Eyes in the Sky

Originally brought out in 2020 on the 23rd of January, this would be the third title in the ‘Tawny Lindholm Thrillers’ series of novels. Following on from the last two, it provides its own self-contained mystery, whilst also paving the way for the fourth title. With the characters and their arcs brought over, it works well on its own terms, with its engaging premise, and strong and compelling characters.

In love with her boss Tillman Rosenbaum, whilst also afraid of his children, Tawny Lindholm is a highly renowned criminal attorney. That’s when the troubled honor student daughter of Tillman overdoses, leading to Tawny not wanting to turn her back on her after saving her life. Not only that, but it seems that nefarious forces are now targeting both Tillman and his family, as Tawny seeks to protect them at all costs. Who is targeting them though, and what do they stand to gain? Can Tawney stop them before it’s too late? What will become of the eyes in the sky?

Glissando: A Story of Love, Lust and Jazz

First published through the Waldorf Publishing label in 2018 on the 2nd of July, this would be a stand-alone title from Debbie Burke as an author. Not being a part of any series as such, it would combine the romance novel with her love of Jazz music, intertwining both of the themes together. This allows it to become its own thing, with Burke saying something different through her work this time round.

This works a well plotted romance with a lot of twists and turns, knowing its genre well, whilst working with its Jazz angle. Creating something different here, Burke provides an interesting take on the genre, identifying the many tropes and turning them on their head. The characters are all well drawn, allowing the story to really speak for itself, establishing Burke as an author with something else to offer.
