Debby Giusti is a bestselling award-winning author that writes romance, Christian and suspense novels. For Giusti, writing has always been an essential component of her life apart from encouraging new authors, caring for military families and meeting readers. It makes a lot of sense given that she has been writing for as long as she can remember and the army is something that has been part of her life for generations. As an Army brat, she had to move a lot following her father on his many assignments. The moving did not stop even when she was all grown up and married as she went on to marry an Army Captain that she met at Fort Knox. She got three children who also went on to become army brats with one becoming a military man at Fort Bragg. It was while they were in Kirksville, Missouri that Debby got infected with the writing bug. She had always wanted to write and she sold her first article on how to be an army wife and sold it for 25 bucks and could not have been happier. Not long after she sold her second article “Sisterhood” that chronicled the endurance of Army wives, the difficulty of frequent moves and the pain of separation that was sold to “Family” an Army magazine. She also had a stint in Germany and then Fort Polk, where she got so busy volunteering that she never found time to write. It was on the next posting in Carlisle, Pennsylvania that she returned to writing as there were few opportunities to volunteer. She wrote several articles that were published in “Our Sunday Visitor,” “Woman’s World” and “Southern Lady.”

Debby got the opportunity to put her medical technology degree back to use when in 1990 they moved to Fayette County as she got a job working part-time at Newnan. It was not long before she was handling the company newsletter and soon after got an offer to write for “ADVANCE,” an industry magazine for laboratory administrators. Debby Giusti wrote several articles for the magazine but the pinnacle was the article she wrote on infectious and emerging diseases after attending a conference organized by the Centers for Disease Control. While she was very successful writing technical articles, she was always interested in creative writing. Years before she had been informed that a children’s author lived on the next street and she used to walk up and down the street hoping to catch a glimpse of the man or talk to him for a few moments. As such, when she saw an ad for a class on creative writing at McIntosh High School, she signed up and was hooked on fiction writing from then on. Debby started with short pieces but was determined to write a full-length novel if she was to feel accomplished. However, it was not until she started attending the Georgia Romance Writers that she got all the encouragement and learning she needed to become an author. She wrote six novels that never went anywhere before she wrote her debut “Nowhere to Hide” in 2007. By 2008, she had won the Inspirational Romantic Suspense category at the Daphne du Maurier for her novel “Scared to Death.”

She credits the meeting with Harlequins Love Inspired editor for her big break. That coupled with a discovery that she could add in a faith element made her novels irresistible. Debby won three contests in a row and got a call form Love Inspired where she has been publishing ever since. After publishing her third novel “Missing in Action” in 2008 she published the “Magnolia Medical” series using the experience she had obtained working in health care. In 2010 Love Inspired asked her to write a military series and so was born the “Military Investigations” which debuted with “The Officer’s Secret” in 2011. The series has turned out to be her most successful series to date. Over the years, she has won a ton of awards from including Philosophy Romance Book of the Year. National Readers’ Choice Award, CATA Romance Reviews Choice Award, Beacon Award for Excellence among many others. Part of what makes her novels so successful is the fact that she writes of gentlemanly men who treat the women caring and gentleness. Women love these characteristics and this has made the novels fly off the shelves. In addition to her novels, she also runs a multi-author blog named “Seekerville.” The blog brings together a group of authors that work together to help those not published to get published.

In Debby Giusti’s debut novel “The Officer’s Secret Maggie” Bennet discovers her army officer sister lifeless in her house. She is distressed with the loss of her sister since she had been trying to patch up their relationship that had broken down. But when Nate Patterson the man in charge of criminal investigations in the army starts investigating and asking questions, Maggie cannot tell him everything she knows. She finds him very attractive though but she knows that keeping as far away from his as possible is the only way to keep her secrets. What Maggie is hiding is that her sister was killed and she knows a secret about the murder that she cannot divulge. But a twist in the case that sees her fall into the killer’s trap means that she had to trust Nate with her heart and even the truth. It is a great story about two people who fall in love while solving a mystery.

Giusti’s “The Captain’s Mission” is the story of an army CID agent named Kelly McQueen ,who is battling unresolved issues with her father and a slew of difficult investigations. As such, when John Philip Thibodeaux who has a reputation with the ladies enters her life, she has a few reservations. However, while Phil always looks like the worldly man with no cares, he has his own demons to fight too. He had a bad childhood as he was neglected by workaholic parents that cared more for their jobs than for him. This makes him careful of not falling for Kelly as he can see that just like his parents, she is a workaholic that puts work above everything. But when a fire exercise becomes fatal, he is forced to work with Kelly in the investigations that follow. It is a great suspense novel full of emotional turns, intrigue and mystery that keeps one turning the pages to find out what comes next.

“The Colonel’s Daughter” by Debby Giusti opens to the families in a military housing complex living in a state of terror. A ruthless killer is on the loose targeting the families of high ranking military officers. Jamison Steel a special agent of the Criminal Investigations Division is charged with apprehending and stopping him. What his superiors do not know is that he is intimately involved as he is in love with a colonel’s daughter. She had left Jamison without a word and he had been left heartbroken though he still loves her. Protecting her would not be easy since it would mean constant surveillance. She is one of the only people that had seen the face of the killer and hence would be crucial for the investigation. But she is not interested in answering the detective’s questions as that would mean being in a room with the detective. What follows is a great suspenseful mystery as the two dance around each other even in the face of a dangerous killer lurking.

I just finished Amish Safe House in the Amish Witness Protection Series. Did she write any others along this line? This one was so good and I love anything Amish to read.
