In one of her books, craving temptation, Mello delivers a fascinating story of family deception while putting aside the soul of man who grew up without a father. ‘Romeo’ Marshall got his nickname in his tender age and earned it as a good-looking young man; his attractive easy demeanor gets women oozing around him. He enjoys loving them and leaving them, to him this is a game, till he meets world trotter Taryn Williams at the jazz and blues club Romeo calls his. An old piano player comes along after which Romeo hires him and they get used to respecting each other through their talks of race relations and marriage. Mello lectures the reader on alcohol, parenting and counseling, giving short shrift to Romeo’s romance with Taryn. If you are a fan of blue, you will appreciate the references outlined throughout the story, however, prose is more of purple than blue; a man does not so much brush his teeth as ‘polish the pearly formation within his mouth’. This is just a preview of one Deborah’s pool of love and romance.
