The Address Book is the first book to come out from author Deirdre Mask. It is an up close look at everything that has to do with addresses. It goes into detail of the history of things such as how streets ended up with their names, how houses get their numbers, as well as a number of other things about identity, race, class, and power.

Not everyone spends time thinking about the topic of street addresses. If they do think about it, it’s usually about how it works in reference to them. It helps get mail to you, or identifies buildings for travelers. However, the truth about these addresses is that they were not put in place so that people could get places easier. They were put there so that you could be found.

In fact, in much of the globe, the address that you have can reveal things about you such as your class and race. This book is as interesting as it is unique. In it, the author looks at such topics as streets that were named in honor of Martin Luther King Junior, how Nazis have jumped out of the past to haunt Germany’s modern streets, and how ancient Romans found their way.

Just like some people have an address, some people do not have an address at all. What does that translate to when it comes to modern people alive today? This book takes an in depth look at it, from people living in India to England. Full of different stories about history and people, this is an examination of the stories related to street names and addresses and the power that they have in regards to people.

Pick up a fascinating copy of this book for yourself and see what it has to say!
