Author Mike Faricy pens the “Dev Haskell” series of mystery novels. The series began publication in the year 2011, when “Russian Roulette” was released.

Dev Haskell is a private investigator based in St. Paul, Minnesota, and provides security to people that do not really need it to begin with.

“Russian Roulette ” is the first novel in the “Dev Haskell” series, which was released in the year 2011. PI Dev Haskell wakes up in the morning and is in need of a cup of coffee, an aspirin, and one hour in the sauna. It appears that he just spent a wild night with Kerri, a beautiful bombshell that is a client, and she left him a note. A sly and smart guy that fancies himself just a touch more debonair and savvy than reality suggests, Dev believe he has it made.

He has zero clue what he is really getting into when he agrees to track down Nikki, Kerri’s sister. Both women are involved with a rather elaborate human trafficking ring with a notorious Russian mobster, called Braco the Whacko, leading things. Quickly, Dev finds he is at odds with the local cops, an FBI task force, and Homeland Security as well as in and out of the hospital due to a bit of shrapnel in his rear end and a gunshot wound. Not to mention the fact that he is on the run from some neurotic underworld boss and a psychotic killer. It has to be love.

Mike Faricy has written a well developed and quirky mystery novel. He even does a great job of hooking readers from the first page and holding your attention until the very end of the book. All while he sets the mood and gives you a sense of time and place with just a few words. The main character is likable, as is the fast paced action and the dark sense of humor.

“Mr. Softee” is the second novel in the “Dev Haskell” series, which was released in the year 2011. Dev leaves his usual stool at the Spot Bar so that he can take on what appears to be a cakewalk job: keep Mr. Swirlee, an ice cream mogul, alive. Turns out that Mr. Swirlee, Weldon Sofmann, is anything but a piece of cake. He is a mean streak a mile wide, a ruthless “entrepreneur” with a short temper, a laundry list of folks that want to finish him off. Which includes Lola, his sex crazed girlfriend.

Things get worse when Dev finds out that his client is running a gambling ring from his ice cream trucks. Dev’s revelation is detected, there is a corpse found in the trunk of his car. Once more, our hero finds he is in way over his head. Thank God for Tony “Dog” Colli, Dev’s sometime friend and a felon, who agrees to help out.

Double cross, murder, mayhem, romance, and the bodies stack up again while Dev and Dog follow their tough client through St. Paul’s streets in the steaming summer. It spins a colorful yarn with a healthy dose of the bizarre.

Mike Faricy has penned another page turner of a novel that stars Dev. The book is fast paced, well-written, and extremely witty. This character, Dev, is an excellent one, despite his bumbling around, falling into his cases and solving them by happenstance only. Mike brilliantly sets up the scenes, playing to all of Dev’s stereotypes and sets him right up for a fall.

“Bite Me” is the third novel in the “Dev Haskell” series, which was released in the year 2012. Back slapping, wise cracking, wrong thinking Dev Haskell. The dream ends right when somebody shoots at them right in the middle of the day. Things get out of control when Dev soon finds that he is under the police’s microscope. He is dodging a pile of bodies that continues to stack up and are all connected to him in some way, and literally tied up in a relationship.

Mike Faricy always writes fantastic books with some colorful characters, as this one is proof of that. He is able to create havoc around a central theme of a guy that thinks about booze, babes, and usually bodies and keep it interesting with each book. Readers cannot wait to get their hands on more adventures of Dev Haskell.

“Bombshell” is the fourth novel in the “Dev Haskell” series, which was released in the year 2012. Crazy babe-magnet, dysfunctional, and bumbling Dev Haskell has just gotten a dream job. He is going to be the envy of each guy that has a beating heart. He is hired to provide security for a team of gorgeous English roller derby stars that have stage names such as Helen Killer and Harlotte Davidson. He finds he would rather be standing guard in the shower room, he finds that he is in a world of trouble when he gets mistaken for the stalker-turned-murderer that he has been trying to track down.

With a group of females ready to murder him and an attorney that drinks way too much, Dev has to prove he is innocent even as he finds the real killer. He must keep himself safe against the wiles of one more dangerous and irresistible woman.

Faricy delivers to his readers yet another clever mystery with a taut plot, some humorous dialogue, and some compelling characters. With each book, he is able to make each one better than the one that came before it. These are fun and fast reads that quickly get you sucked into the world that has been created here.

“Tutti Frutti” is the fifth novel in the “Dev Haskell” series, which was released in the year 2013. He falls hard for a hot ‘cougar’ named Candi, and offers himself up as a midnight treat before finding she has a sexual appetite that is greater than he is able to handle.

The instant he takes Swindle Lawless on as his newest client the corpses start to wash up on the shore and each and every one seems to be drifting right to Dev.
