Handbags and Homicide

Handbags and Homicide are the first instalments in the Dorothy Howell book series. In Handbags and Homicide, the author introduces the readers to Haley Rundolf, a young girl who comes from a wealthy family and has an exquisite taste. However, Rundolf does not have the means of supporting her spending habits. Thus, Haley Rundolf decides to take a second job, which she uses to pay her bills. However, one-day Rundolf finds a dead body while at work and things begin to get a little bit complicated. She becomes the main suspect as all the evidence points to her. According to the security video tapes, Haley Rundolf was the only person to get inside the stockroom when the murder was committed. As all this happens, she losses her job. Rundolf tries to figure out how she is going to get her job back, and also find out who the killer was.

Haley eventually turns to the handsome TY Cameron, who is in charge of the store’s prevention unit which promises to assist her in finding the killer. She continues to get into more and more trouble. Haley’s main goal is to find the killer who has a great fashion sense. With that said Handbags and Homicide in a great read. If you are a fan of cozy mysteries, then you are going to fall in love with this installment.

Purses and Poison

Purses and Poison are the second installments in the Haley Randolph book series. Once again we meet with Haley Rundolf, the 24-year-old who is obsessed with handbags and working part-time at the local Holt Department store. Her boyfriend Ty Cameron now owns the Holt department. The main reason why Haley Rundolf is working part-time is so that she pay back the debt that she had accumulated while buying handbags. When Ty Cameron’s former girlfriend, one Claudia Gray turns up dead, the police decide to step in and conduct an investigation. It is eventually determined that Claudia had consumed a poisoned fruit that she had taken from a fruit bouquet. The fruit bouquet was purchased from Edible Elegance, a company that is owned by Haley’s mother. However, Haley knows that her mother is not a killer. Thus she begins her investigation to establish who was responsible for framing her mother.

While doing her investigation, Haley also has to deal with her relationship with TY. With that said, Purses and Poison is a fast-paced and reverent read. It is not only amusing but also an easy read.

Beach Bags and Burglaries

In this installment, we meet once again with Haley Rundolf. The book begins as Haley has just won a rather complicated contest that she can hardly remember. Haley has won an exclusive trip to the prestigious Rowan Resort. Together with three of her friends, Haley Rundolf has some bigger plans. Apart from working on her tan, she also expects to find one of the hottest bags of the season as well as be on the lookout for celebrities. The private beaches of the Rowan Resort are widely known for being inaccessible to most people. Thus, Haley Rundolf is more than shocked when she discovers that a majority of her aspiring suitors kept running into her from time to time. Despite the fact that Haley has not yet fully recovered from her last break-up, the author painfully describes how Haley’s heart skips a beat each time she shares a long and lingering look with each of her romantic interests.

Haley is more than lucky that she is not in an emergency room due to congestive heart failure. Irrespective of everything that she experiences, Haley is more than lucky that she has something to focus on, one Jaslyn Gordon. Jaslyn is a maid who works at the Rowan Resort and had been killed. Hayley was presented with the opportunity of looking into the case. Because the hotel was more than determined to keep the case out of the media, Haley is the only person who knows about the case apart from the hotel management and staff. Hayley begins by first finding out what was the main reason why Jaslyn was killed and also who was the person responsible for the atrocious act.

Swag Bags and Swindlers

In Swags and Swindlers, we meet with the fashion-obsessed protagonist. In this installment, Haley is working two jobs, one at the department store and another as an event planner for LA affairs. When one of the event planners is given a maternity leave, Haley Rundolf decides to cover up for the other client, hoping that the initiative was going to ensure that she gets a full-time position. As expected, Haley fails to ask what her new duties entail and continues to work on her new event, the 50th Anniversary gala for the Hollywood Haven, a leading retirement home for any person who is related to the film industry. While on a visit to the retirement home, Haley discovers that one of the administrators that she has been working with, Derrick Ellery. Thus, Haley decides to find out who exactly was responsible for the killing Derrick Ellery.

Despite the fact that she is busy looking into the case, her new priority is finding a new stunning bag, known as the Sassy satchel, that she was shown online by the best friend. With that said, Swag Bags is a lightweight beach read, which a majority of fashionistas are going to fall in love with. All the characters that have been featured in Swag Bags and Swindlers have been well developed and realistic especially due to their many flaws.
