Edward Willett is the American and award winning author of Young Adult, Fantasy, Science Fiction, and Non-Fiction. He was born in New Mexico; Willett has lived in Lubbock Tulia, Bayard New Mexico before relocating to Weyburn, Saskatchewan together with his family when he was only eight years old. The author studied journalism at Harding University in Arkansas and then returned home as a photographer for the Weyburn Review and later became news editor. In 1998, Willet relocated to Regina, Saskatchewan working as communications officer for the Saskatchewan Science Centre.

In 1993, he quit his job and became a full-time freelance writer. Willet has authored and co-authored more than thirty novels ranging from children’s nonfiction books and computer books to fantasy and science fiction for both young adults and adults. His science fiction book Marsguro won the Aurora Award for the best English-language fantasy or science fiction novel written by a Canadian author in 2009. His Young Adult fantasy novel also saw Willett win the Saskatchewan Book Award for his Young Adult fantasy novel Spirit Singer.

The author has also been nominated for the Saskatchewan Book Awards and the Aurora Award multiple times. The author’s science fiction novels span from science books touching on topics such as Milky Way and the Ebola Virus to the local history books like Moose Jaw and Historical Walks of Regina. Besides writing, Willet is a professional singer, actor and has performed dozens of musicals, plays, and operas hosted by numerous public events and local television programs. Marseguro Marseguro is the first novel in The Helix War series after a holocaust strikes Earth, the planet is taken over by a dogmatic religious theocracy. But for scientist Victor Hansen, he manages to flee with some of his staffs- the genetically unmodified humans and the Selkies-his newly created race to Marseguro a distant water world. Unfortunately, their peace is threatened when a mole amongst them call for a strike force from earth.

What Richard is about to discover may alter not only his destiny but also that of Earth and Marseguro as well. The first novel in The Helix War series is an interesting read; it takes place some five decades after a Victor steals the Earth Ship (Body Purified Ship) and establishes a new colony for himself and his modified people called the Selkies. This causes a grudge between him and the Body Purified individuals who are actively searching for him and his “abominations” so that they can all be cleaned (killed). The Body Purified is some conservative religion that could otherwise be said to have gone insane and probably not the kind of insanity you may refer in the modern days, but more like middle ages insanity. Anything that is not human is considered an abomination and must be purified or rather killed, and there is a strict code that all the Body Purified members must adhere to.

This is a nasty religion, since that even the clones are considered not humans and must be destroyed and if you mess somehow with the purification process, you might find yourself in not so good situation. The novel’s action and pace move correctly; there is also a different cast of characters which the author has vividly described. Willett has set up an interesting premise, the plot is full of twist, and the main character Richard Hansen is an intriguing on. Terra Insegura This is the second book in The Helix War series.

After escaping persecution in the first novel in the series, Victor Hansen escaped earth with some of the modified humans known as the Selkies. They were attacked unprepared by the Body Purified followers, but in response, the Selkies created a plague that would wipe out an entire human race unless they are inoculated. The second novel begins Richard Hanson, the clone of Victor Hansen and a crew of people and Selkies headed to earth with the inoculation with the hope of saving the humanity. But what could await them on earth? Will this fanatic and conservative religion of Body Purified have contained the plague? Or will it be spread on the innocent population? Regardless of what might happen, the crew from Marseguro is determined to help to their level best, since they never intended the plague to escape beyond their planet. The second novel is better than the first book in the series.

The narrative is narrated from different points of view and with each narrator having his or her own personal conflicts and motivations. The plot is complex but engaging at the same time; there are several themes that the author has touched on such as betrayal, loyalty, battle, action in space, battle on land and so many twists and turns. If you would like to read a light sci-fi or military science fiction novel, with some tweaks of space opera, then you should definitely pick up this series. Song of the Sword Song of the Sword is the first novel in The Shards of Excalibur series. In the modern world, it’s pretty obvious that everyone knows the legends of King Arthur and of course the powerful wizard named Merlin.

But what if the so called myths, fairy tales are real historical facts and only that someone rearranged that history and made it seem like a legend? The novel introduces Ariane, who is finding life difficult. Her mother vanished, and she is now trying to adjust living with her aunt after having been into several foster homes. She is taking her grief from the in girls at school, and she has been experiencing strange dreams involving knights, swords, and battles, and lately, things seem to be getting weirder whenever she touches water, and now an invisible person is singing to her. Not before long, Ariane meets the famous Lady of the Lake down a staircase in the midst of Wascana Lake and she discovers that she is related and also she has been set with Wally Knight, her new best friend on a deadly mission that will see her encounter supernatural forces. Will she figure out the meaning of all these before she can survive the challenge?
