Eileen Dreyer is an award-winning American author of fiction. Born in 1952, she is a New York Times bestselling author and has published multiple novels and her short stories during her career. Dreyer has also had eight medical forensic suspense novels published so far.
Dreyer is a retired trauma nurse and is trained in death investigation as well as forensic investigation, areas that invariably have made it into some of her novels. Dreyer says that even though she doesn’t see herself working actively in the area, she’ll give it a try if the writing thing doesn’t work out.
She was born in St. Louis and despite her extensive international traveling lives there today along with her large Irish family and her children and husband. She has a few animals that live with all of them too, and it gets quite noisy sometimes! Even though she loves her pets, she refuses to push them into the limelight. She also speaks at conferences on a regular basis.
Eileen Dreyer is active in a membership with several author’s groups that include Sisters in Crime, Romance Writers of America, Mystery Writers of America, the Emergency Nurses Association, and the I.A.F.N. (International Association of Forensic Nurses). In addition to conference speaking and membership duties, she admits that she is addicted to traveling. She sees research as a great solution to her endless curiosity and has been to some of the best Irish pubs ever.
Eileen Dreyer received her first award in 1987 when RT Bookclub named her the best new author in Contemporary Romance. She has since won several other awards, including five more awards from RT for her writing and a matching five more of the R.W.A.’s RITA awards. Dreyer is fourth in the R.W.A.’s Hall of Fame. She also has received a nomination for an Anthony Award ever since she began writing in the suspense genre.
She won critical acclaim for her work on The Drake’s Rake series, her first adventure into the historical romance genre. This series focused on a group of English aristocrats whose patriotism is so great that they are willing to sacrifice anything in order to protect England. There is going to be another trilogy to follow this group that focuses on the graduates of the Last Chance Academy that find themselves ending up crossing swords with the Rakes. Dreyer actually spent time in India, Italy, and England to do research for the novels so that they would be accurate and those experiences would come through in her work.
She uses the pen name Kathleen Korbel for her Silhouette series, a romance novel series. She is also well known using her name Dreyer for writing the Molly Burke series, which features the 1995 novel Bad Medicine and its sequel Head Games in 2004. The series focuses on the adventures of Molly Burke, a trauma nurse that works at the St. Louis Emergency Department treating patients and has seen it all in terms of trauma in the hospital and heartbreak in her love life.
Bad Medicine is the first novel in the Molly Burke series. Molly enjoys her work as a trauma nurse and even picks up some work on the side as a part-time death investigator. She works at the Emergency Department of St. Louis and she is there one night on a night that is like any other. But when a lawyer comes in that has big money and prominence in the community and it seems like he is the victim of a suicide, it’s a more intense night than usual.
Even though this is pretty bad, the suicides don’t stop there. In just a few days, one suspected suicide becomes four. They’re all lawyers on top of it. With a vicious pattern appearing, Molly becomes troubled because of what’s occurring. These suicides have way too much in common to be suicides– right?
Molly starts to suspect that there’s more going on than a rash of self-homicidal behavior from legal professionals. They worked hard to get to where they were in their careers– why would they ruin all of that and throw that work away just to die? By all accounts, the lawyers lived a pretty good lifestyle and had plenty of assets and money in the bank.
These lawyers were at the top of their game. So are they really suicides, or does someone have a motive when it comes to killing these lawyers? For her part, Molly is convinced that there has to be a killer involved in some way. Could powerful people be behind the deaths of these legal professionals? And what will happen if she starts digging a little too deep? Pick up the gripping debut book in the Molly Burke series from Eileen Dreyer!
Head Games is the sequel to the exciting and popular Molly Burke series from celebrated author Eileen Dreyer! Molly is back in this engaging follow-up to the debut novel in the series and things have calmed down somewhat since the last time we saw her. However, trouble has a way of finding her. If you loved Bad Medicine, you will turn the pages until you’re done with this murder mystery from Eileen Dreyer.
We are back into the thick of the Medical Examiner’s Office and ER as Molly gets back to work. Her work has often been difficult when she has attempted to save abused children that passed through the ER. Some kids can be saved, but most will fall through the cracks in the system and stay with their abusive families.
When a child she once tried to save from an unspeakably horrible life has grown up, Molly is shocked to find out the toll that the trauma has taken on him. He is no longer a sweet kid but someone who does bad deeds– and he wants nothing more to catch the attention of the ER nurse. Molly gets the feeling that he will not be ignored.
With a killer to watch out for, Molly has her hands full with the care of her sixteen-year-old nephew. So she has to babysit and make sure that she somehow avoids falling into the clutches of a killer that will not accept being ignored. What will happen? Pick up Head Games to find out!
