Eliza Doolittle & Henry Higgins Mystery is a set of novels written by bestselling Mystery, Humor, and Comedy author D.E. Ireland. D.E. Ireland is a pseudonym of writers Meg Mims and Sharon Pisacreta. The books feature two amateur detectives Professor Henry Higgins and Eliza Doolittle.

The first novel in the series Would not It Be Deadly was published in 2014, while the second Move Your Blooming Corpse was released a year later in 2015.

Meg Mims is American author of historical mysteries, cozy contemporaries and romance novels set during the holidays. On the other hand, Sharon Pisacreta is American author born and raised in Detroit Michigan. She has worked as a freelance writer since her twenties. She made her first appearance in the publishing world in 1998 when her first novel was released.

Both Meg Mims and Sharon Pisacreta coauthored Eliza Doolittle & Henry Higgins series which was released in 2014.

Wouldn’t It Be Deadly

The first novel in An Eliza Doolittle & Henry Higgins Mystery series, Wouldn’t It Be Deadly, first introduces two amateur sleuths, Henry Higgins and Eliza Doolittle at the start of one delightful new series.

After her successful appearance at an Embassy Ball- where Eliza Doolittle apparently won Professor Henry Higgins bet that she could pass off a Cockney flower girl as a duchess- Eliza soon becomes the assistant to his chief rival Nepommuck.

Nepommuck goes ahead to take upperhand for changing Eliza into a lady publicly; the furious Higgins submits evidence to a London print media that Nepommuck is indeed a fraud. However, when Nepommuck is found stabbed in the back, Henry Higgins becomes the prime suspect in the murder case. On the other hand, Eliza discovers that most of the Nepomuk’s pupils had all the reasons to kill their blackmailing teacher.

In a couple of days, other suspects turn up dead, and the evidence is missing as well. Soon Eliza and Higgins discover that the only way that they could clear the professor’s name is to discover which of the Nepommuck myriads of enemies the real killer is.

The first novel in the series showcases the re-imagination of George Bernard Shaw characters which is a sheer pleasure.

Reading the book takes you to the wonderful world of Professor Henry Higgins and Eliza Doolittle. The mystery itself is excellent and features several great twists that will keep you hooked from the first paragraph to the last. What makes the entire plot concept shine are the characters, both Henry and Eliza are portrayed right on the mark and coupled with lots of Humor. The first novel is a hit with fans of My Fair Lady, historical genre mysteries, and cozies in general.

Move Your Blooming Corpse (2015)

It is the second book from the prolific writing team D.E. Ireland the main characters Henry Higgins and Eliza Doolittle once come again to life as a uproarious investigative team. The books explore the Edwardian world of racing and the fascinating characters, from duchesses to jockeys in this pleasurable traditional mystery that will appeal most the fans of British mysteries.

Henry and Eliza are attending the biggest horse racing event of the season at the Posh Royal Ascot. Eliza Doolittle dad is the co-owner of a champion racehorse, and Henry and Eliza are happy to cheer up the Donegal Dancer on the Victory. However, the fantastic outing takes a serious turn when a person is trampled during the Gold Cup race, and someone is also found dead in the stables.

With time running out, Eliza and Higgins investigate suffragettes, jealous spouses, and the cheerful co-owners of the Donegal Dancer. However, can the two amateur sleuth outrace the killer or will the bodies keep on piling at the finish line?

The second novel in An Eliza Doolittle & Henry Higgins Mystery is such a fantastic read. The characters have been well crafted, and you will find yourself relating to almost every character in the book.

Eliza is an amazing character, she possesses a caring heart, and despite her rare flightiness, she is practical. Henry, on the other hand, is argumentative and snobby. The horse racing event serves as the center of the novel. The mystery in the book will keep you on guessing and peeping on the next page to see who could be the killer.

Apart from the main characters, the side characters are somehow quirky, and the humor they tend to add is quite enjoyable.

Get Me to Your Grave

Everyone around her seems headed for the alter even though Eliza still doesn’t want to marry Freddy Eynsford-Hill. Her cousin, Inspector Jack Shaw is about to wed the love of his life, and Freddy Young sister is engaged, along with Henry Higgins, the niece.

Another redden character bride is the 60-year-old Duchess of Carberry who intends on marrying a handsome man half her age. However, when the groom is found dead, the only possible suspect is a jealous mistress. On the other hand, the death might be connected to the treasures stolen from an Indian temple.

Trouble comes knocking next to Sybil’s and Jack wedding. Later, the wedding admittance of Higgins niece takes a dangerous turn. It soon discovered that someone might be targeting grooms, and the wedding event of Freddy’s beloved sister is next on the line.

Eliza and Higgins begin an epic quest to track down the serial killer targeting grooms before another bridal party is tossed. Otherwise, Clara’s handsome bridegroom and perhaps the bride may be killed before they can get to the church on time.

The author takes on the four weddings and a single funeral and does this better by adding some murder flavor to the story.

Henry Higgins at first, the idea of four weddings in just four weeks does not ring a bell until the first wedding bride groom is murdered. For the two main characters, despite having great success in solving murders, Henry and Elizabeth do not want to get involved in an incident in the next wedding hits close to their home.

The third novel is a fun, rollicking adventure. Imagine four murders at just four weddings; it is simply shocking and deliciously evil.
