Eileen Miles is an author of fictional novels and stories for children. She has written books for kids that include the Kitty Corner and the Puppy Place series.

Born in N.Y.C. in 1957, Eileen now chooses to reside in Vermont. Her books have become popular enough that they have been translated into other languages that include Spanish and French.

Eileen Miles currently pens stories for Scholastic Books. Her fictional stories are often light in nature and feature both fictional human beings and animals as well. She has many series out, including the 7 Sister mystery series.

Eileen Miles is the creator and the author of the Taylor-Made Tales series. This fun fictional series kicked off in 2005 with the release of the novel The Dog’s Secret. The sequel to that debut novel followed just a year later and is called The Pirate’s Plot. A third and a fourth book round out the series, so if you are looking for a series featuring chapter books in order to teach your kids to read or encourage them to take on larger books, this is a good place to start!

The Dog’s Secret is the first book in the Taylor-Made Tales series by author Eileen Miles. This is traditional story telling at its finest in a chapter book that parents and kids alike can spend time together reading. There is also the benefit of a wholesome element that gives this series an appeal, as well as the fact that it is easy to be read out loud.

Kids will love the exciting element of adventure while parents will be happy that their child is starting to read chapter books on their own or with their encouragement. Cricket is like every other kid in her school and this year is going like any other except for the fact that she has a new teacher for a class. His name is Mr. Taylor.

Cricket finds it interesting that her new teacher appears to have such a talent for story telling. He can create a story right out of the blue and it can be based on a random object. With a random variety of items to pick from, the students can select one and then Mr. Taylor can build an interesting plot around the item in particular that has been chosen.

It could be anything and no matter how seemingly random, it appears that the students’ teacher is able to craft an intricate story around it. It could be something as innocent as a necklace, or something that is part of a game like a tennis ball. No matter whether the object is a dog, boat, playing card, it appears that their unique teacher is able to come up with some type of plot involving it.

The stories are always nothing short of impressive, and all of the students really enjoy this new game. Mr. Taylor is teaching them along the way that a story can have power not only to get your imagination going but to capture attention and make people see certain things.

The first book is one of the teacher’s stories. In this yarn, the story of Maisie is told. It appears that Maisie is a young girl that has a lot of time on her hands because she is so lonely. With not many things to do, this girl decides that she is going to try to teach her dog to speak.

Her dog is named Jack and she is convinced that if she can put in the effort, she can get the dog to talk to her. The only thing is that she never counted on her efforts being successful. Maisie is able to get Jack to speak to her and her plan is victorious. All of her hard work paid off and now the pet that was not able to communicate with her except for barks and things like that can actually speak!

Now that Maisie has gotten her dog to talk, she suddenly has a new friend. The two of them become pretty close and are just like best friends. Soon they are doing a lot of things together, but is this awesome development going to prove to not be such a good thing after all?

Read the first book in this fun chapter book series for young readers to find out!

The Pirate’s Plot is the second book in Eileen Miles’ Taylor-Made series. As discussed above, there is a new teacher for one of her classes and he likes to play games of the imagination. Leo is not sure that he has ever had a teacher quite like this before, that likes to make up tales and base them around simple objects that his students choose.

Through his unique exercise, Mr. Taylor hopes that he will be able to show some of these young students that stories do have their own power. He is good at this exercise as well; no matter what they have to choose from and which outlandish item they end up selecting for him, he is able to build some type of story involving the object.

Such is the case for this second story, which is told by this innovative fictional teacher. It does not matter whether the item is a simple mop used for cleaning the floor or a cat with six toes. Even for something as simple as a hunk of cheese or as rare as a mysterious brass key or as exciting as a pirate ship, he is able to come up with some type of tale that involves the object.

By telling these tales, the teacher is not only sparking the imaginations of his students but getting them involved in the world of stories. This story focuses around a boy who decides to become a stowaway and ends up on a pirate ship.

He appears to be trapped with no escape, so he must make the most of it. He was the one who decided to get a ride on this rig, but can he survive the adventurous life of a boy on the high seas? Read this book to find out!
