Elly Griffiths is a novelist with several books under her name. She gets her inspiration from her husband and herself, who are both archaeologists, and her aunt who used to fill her head with many tales when she was a little girl. Elly has two children with her husband and they live near Brighton. When Elly is not digging up bones, she is writing her beloved novels. Although The Crossing Places is not her first novel, it is her very first crime novel.

A child comes up missing. When a child’s bones are found on a beach, the Detective Chief Inspector Harry Nelson asks Ruth Galloway for help to determine if these bones are the final remains of a missing little girl by the name of Lucy Downey. This little girl has been missing for ten years and since her disappearance, Detective Nelson has been receiving weird letters. These weird letters are about the little girl and about sacrifice and rituals.

However, Ruth Galloway soon finds out these remains are actually two-thousand-years-old. Although they are not the remains of the missing little girl, Galloway is intrigued by the letters and the details about the girl’s disappearance and starts helping Detective Nelson to either find her dead or alive. The Janus Stone novel is another Ruth Galloway novel. It is number two in the series after The Crossing Places. Ruth Galloway and Detective Nelson find them once again, right in the middle of another missing child case when a construction worker unearths remains of yet another child.

They soon find out that where the construction work is going on, they are demolishing an abandoned house, it used to be a children’s home. They start tracking down the operator of the children’s home, Father Hennessey who is a Catholic Priest. Father Hennessey tells them that two children actually went missing about 40-years ago from the home. Taking this information, Galloway and Nelson are off once again to solve the crime committed.

Elly Griffiths has many novels she has written. Her latest book, The Outcast Dead was published on January 2014. This is another Ruth Galloway series. Galloway finds even more bones that were buried in the ground under a building that used to be a prison. She finds out that she has uncovered the remains of Mother Hook. Mother Hook was a notorious murderess who would kill babies and sell their bodies to the Resurrection Men.

Mrs. Griffith’s alter ego, Ruth Galloway is head of the archaeology department at North Norfolk. When she started becoming interested in digging up bones and ancient artifacts is still a mystery to many. She grew up listening to stories her grandfather told her. When she turned ten-years-old her family found God and started going to church and praying for friends and family. However, God was still somewhat hidden from her.

She did, however, find comfort and refuge by reading books and studying. She started studying at the University of London and then went on to get her MA and PhD. She met a man named Erik who would change her life forever. They quickly became friends and he was her mentor for years. Ruth was present when Erik found his greatest triumph. He uncovered a Bronze Age Wooden Henge.

The Henge was what changed Galloway’s life forever. This discovery is where she met her partner for the next ten years, Peter. She also uncovered many secrets that led to murder. She currently lives on an isolated stretch of land called The Saltmarsh with her two cats. Elly says she doesn’t know where her alter ego and character, Ruth Galloway came from. She stated that the character just popped into her head and came to life one day.

She thinks Ruth came from a mirror of her two sisters who are both independent and strong woman. One sister is a teacher and the other one is an artist. She also thinks part of Ruth might have come from her aunt who lives in Norfolk. She says that maybe this character is a combination of all three of these very strong and independent women. After all, Ruth is a very strong and independent woman herself and might just come from all three of them.

The Ruth Galloway series has six books altogether in it. They include The Crossing Places, The Janus Stone, The House at Sea’s End, A Room Full of Bones, A Dying Fall, and The Outcast Dead. She also writes a Christmas story with Ruth Galloway as the main character as well as a book called, Ruth Galloway Omnibus: Dodencirkel and Offersteen which is two books in one about Ruth Galloway.

Elly Griffiths currently has ten novels with six of them being the Ruth Galloway series, two more with Ruth Galloway as the main character, one written with other authors, and yet another one in a in Spanish with Ruth Galloway as the main character. Her newest book is The Outcast Dead which was published and released this year. Her book The Crossing Places received the Mary Higgins Clark award in 2011 and was also shortlisted for the Theakstons Old Peculiar Crime Novel of the Year.

Elly Griffiths is currently on tour to promote her new novels. She has been visiting many bookshops during her book tour and is “always happy” to do so. Within the past year, Elly has been on tour meeting new people and signing books for them. She has her own website filled with information about all of her books, her touring information, how to contact her, and much more. Her website is http://www.ellygriffiths.co.uk/index.html Elly Griffiths is a remarkable author.

With so many Ruth Galloway novels and a few other novels under her name, Elly lives a wonderful life with her husband and her two children. She has a wonderful family who have been most of her inspiration, as well as her archaeology work, for her novels. Everyone must be very interested to learn when her next novel will be published so they can read it. Everyone is in anticipation for her next thrilling novel.

Never before have I been as invested in the characters in a series. This is 2023 and I’ve read 10 and almost now have them in order. I haven’t read “Ruth’s first Christmas Tree” which is next then I’m up to the Stone Circle. I try to read other authors, but put them aside when I get the next Ruth story. Thank you SO much, Ms. Griffiths.

Another fan here. I’ve read basically all the books in order, bar the latest Ruth & Kaur stories in 2023. As someone has said I appreciate the fast-paced plot development, but in the case of Ruth Galloway I’m really invested in the characters, like no other series I’ve read. It helps a little that we discovered the North Norfolk coast a few years ago, and yes it’s a wonderful area to visit, but by no means essential to enjoy the stories.
