Jerome Dickey was born on 7th July, 1961 in Memphis, Tennessee. He lived and grew up on Kansas Street in the southern side of Memphis. He learnt Riverview for Elementary school and Riverview Junior High. He later joined Carver High. After his high school graduation, he joined Memphis State University for his college studies where he also graduated with a degree of Computer System Technology. He then moved to Los Angeles in 1983 to pursue his engineering career. Dickey landed a job in the aerospace industry at Rockwell International which became part of Boeing, where he worked as a software developer. This was before he decided to pursue stand-up comedy and acting whereby he started his local as well as national comedy circuit.

Growing up in Memphis when he was a child, Dickey did not show any kind of special talent in writing. After his graduation from college he was determined on his engineering career hence getting his Software developer job, where he spent the next nine years dealing with technical writing. In that period Dickey discovered that he had an artistic skill which was apparently becoming better. He the pursued various acting roles and appeared as a stand-up comedian to satisfy his urge. Gradually his comedy stints saw him perform in many clubs around the west, from Washington, Seattle to San Antonio in Texas.

Dickey wrote many scripts for his own comedy act before beginning to write short stories. He published his first short story called “Thirteen” which appeared in River Crossing, Voices of the Diaspora of the IBWA’s; The International Black Experience’s Anthology. He then wrote a few more stories before developing a screenplay known as “Cappuccino”. “Cappuccino” which was directed and also produced by Craig Ross Jr appeared in several coffeehouses in Los Angeles. By February 1998, “Cappuccino” made a local debut at Los Angeles’ Magic Johnson Theatre during the Pan-African Film Festival. So far Dickey has written fifteen novels. He has also been featured in a many publications which include the USA Today, Essence magazine as well as The Los Angeles Times. His novels have been seen on bestseller lists of the “Blackboard”, His novel Friend and Lovers which was greatly received was released in 1997. Another great novel of his was the cheaters which had its release in 1999. Other great novels authored by Dickey were Walking with Enemies and Sleeping with Strangers which were both released in 2007. Dickey’s 14th novel known as Pleasure’, was released 2008 in April. During the same year on 1st November he released his 15th novel; Dying for Revenge.

Dickey’s novel Friends and Lovers was a depiction of great artwork, the novel, released in 1997 offers characters that are real and believable, invigorating dialogue. The lives, loves and losses of four vibrant African-American women who are based in Los Angeles are the Dickey’s subjects where he focuses his observation powers and a Wit that is finely tuned. Tyrel has a twin sister Mye who is her continuous source of her support. Tyrel is an executive in a computer-company and his career is doing much better than his love life. He has a best friend named Leonard who is aspiring to stand- up comedian who seems destined for stardom but is single and unhappy. When these two men meet Shelby and Debra, it appears that that their luck takes a turn that is surely dramatic for the better. After a few days, Leonard and Debra who is light skinned and an OB-GYN nurse who is determined but quiet in nature fall for each other greatly. In the case of Tyrel and the flight attendant that is outspoken and harder-edged Shelby (who hates being referred to as a “stewardess”), it takes a little longer, they both gradually find what they have been searching for in each other. at first Los Angeles certainly seems like a paradise for the four as they hit the beaches, restaurants, discos and comedy clubs enthusiastically. A massive misunderstanding then destroys the romance of Tyrel and Shelby’s which makes her to move to San Diego and him to San Francisco. By that time Leonard and Debra are married happily but frustrated by the inability of their best friends to resolve differences. It takes an interesting tragedy on a bigger scale to reunite these lovers who are destined for one another and also for both of the both couples that maybe their friendship the most valuable gift they have. With the four characters offering snippets of this story in turns, it may at times be hard to keep track of the one talking–but familiarity ensures a smooth reading through the great Novel by Dickey.

Dickey’s other great novel is the sassy, sexy and sharp-tongued called Cheaters. The Los Angeles singles scene of the novel shows how Dickey treats readers to a completely uninhibited, uncensored and an adventure that is extremely entertaining through subjects on seduction, heartbreak, betrayal and also true love. The novel is full of insight and Laced with great humour. It is also full of complex and honest emotions. These make Cheaters to be one of Eric Jerome Dickey’s Novels that is most irresistible and ambitious. Stephan Mitchell has best friends both Jake and Darnell who are living well and have great jobs as well as beckoning futures. Jake and Stephan attract many beautiful women and their spice of life is variety. Darnell is however different: He keeps his marriage vows in spite of some rough experiences, until he finally meets a woman who comprehends his dreams; Chante Marie Ellis who also has best friends Tammy and Karen who are her true soul sisters. The friends are pretty and go way back. They have been tight throughout when each has found, lost or gone looking for love and even sworn off men. But when Marie bumps into Stephan at a night club again, things are different. She thinks maybe this time round she can give out her heart without getting hurt. Jake plays around and Darnell still struggles with temptation. Meanwhile Stephan begins to see more clearly his past and present life. Moving forward consequences of playing the game start to cash in on each of them, they find out what the end result when the games stop, thus Who loses, who wins, and also who cheats for only one last time.
