Writing thriller novels is something that the American novelist Erik Storey has become extremely well known for. Creating edge-of-the-seat suspense filled action, the stories carry themselves well alongside tightly knit character development too. This has ensured that he really is one of the most highly sought after voices currently working within the industry to date.

Early and Personal Life

Growing up in the wilderness of Colorado, he was raised in the Flat Tops there in the homestead of his great-grandfathers. Spending his summers there he would take in a whole wealth of ideas and experience, much of which would later go back into his work. It would also give him a great insight into the great outdoors and what it takes to survive out and what skills are needed.

With a passion for both reading and writing, he would focus himself on his craft from an early age as well. This would give him the resources needed to take his career forwards and make a name for himself in the following years to come. Throughout his education he would manage to hone his style and tone, essentially giving himself the unique voice that he currently has today.

Becoming a sharpshooter he has gained marksman qualifications, something which provides him with a certain level of insight into his characters. Writing about what he knows, it’s easy to see where he gains his accuracy from on the page, giving his work a sense of realism and grounding. Now settling into working as a writer full-time, he has managed to finally become the novelist that he’s always wanted to be.

Currently still writing to this very day, he has come to understand who he is as a writer, with a clear understanding of his craft. Living in Grand Junction, Colorado, with his family he continues to put out work at a regular and ever consistent pace. This will grow in the following years to come, as he has plenty more novels set for release on the horizon, something which doesn’t appear to be stopping anytime soon.

Writing Career

Bringing out his first novel ‘Nothing Short of Dying’ back in 2016, he has come a long way in a relatively short amount of time. Writing a thriller starring his ever resilient protagonist of Clyde Barr for the first time, it takes its time getting to the thrilling conclusion. Building the suspense, it really shows an exciting new talent, something which goes a long way towards explaining how he became one to really watch.

With a couple of titles in his Clyde Barr series of novels now, he has created an iconic character for this particular franchise. Allowing his stories to come alive, he really has created a world all of its very own with this franchise, giving it a sense of life and vibrancy. There’s more room to continue expanding indefinitely too, with plenty of space to grow, as there’s a lot more opportunities for the series yet.

Over time his writing career has gained a lot of traction, allowing him to become one of the foremost voices of his genre. Gaining acclaim from both the critics and the general public alike, he’s managed to quickly attract attention from all over the world. This is largely due to the brevity found in his work that translates worldwide for a whole variety of different readers.

Using his background in marksmanship, he’s managed to provide his work with a certain degree of authenticity too. This then allows it to come alive almost off of the page, giving it a sense of immediacy it wouldn’t otherwise have had. The wilderness is also something that he would also come to brilliantly realize in his work, becoming a character almost in of its own right.

Still continuing to maintain a key presence on the literary scene, Storey manages to build an ever stronger profile as the years go by. Creating terse thrillers that retain a sense of fun coupled with a serious dramatic tone, they really manage to enthrall readers worldwide. With his writing career growing from strength-to-strength, this all looks set to continue on into the foreseeable future for some time yet.

Nothing Short of Dying

Setting up the first title in the ongoing series of ‘Clyde Barr’ novels, this was originally brought out in 2016 on the 25th of August. Released through the ‘Simon and Schuster UK’ publishing imprint, this would mark his debut thriller release too. Establishing not just the series, but his writing career too, it managed to set-up the main characters, as well as the initial premise too.

Having been on the run for sixteen years, Clyde Barr finds himself out in the wilderness of Colorado, as he hopes to finally get some peace and quiet. That’s when he gets a call from his sister, as it seems that she’s been taken, before the line goes dead leaving him to find out what’s happened. Taking off once more, he must find out what actually happened to her, all whilst he attempts to evade capture. Will he find her? Can he keep himself safe? What will it take if nothing short of dying?

A Promise To Kill

Initially released in 2017 just under one year after the first, this was originally released on the 15th of August. Continuing on from where the last left off, it would develop the story and the characters, progressing the world as a whole. Brought out through the ‘Scribner’ publishing label this time, it would manage to move the narrative forwards as well.

Heading through the great American West this time, Clyde Barr is hoping to find something that he can actually believe in. Coming across a sick man in the woods, he finds an elderly Ute Indian from a nearby reservation, as he realizes his solitude is no more once again. A biker gang is terrorizing the granddaughter of the Indian’s ranch, and he soon finds himself using his deadly skills to protect those in need. Will he be able to protect them? Who are the Reapers and what does this gang want? Can he make a promise to kill?
