Publication Order of Short Stories/Novellas
Eryn Scott is a cozy mystery and romance author that is best known for writing quirky women’s fiction and heartwarming cozies. Her works usually feature strong families and close friendships since she considers these and a little humor the essence of living.
Scott currently makes her home in the Pacific Northwest from where she writes her many novels. She wrote “In Her Way,” her debut novel, in 2015 and has never looked back since. ScoTt currently has more than thirty titles to her name alongside several single standing novels and novellas.
When she is not writing her novels, she can usually be found reading, skiing, hiking, and riding horses. While she cannot sing or dance, she thinks that apart from writing and reading there is nothing better than musicals.
In a recent interview, Eryn Scott said that she was brought up in the hinterlands of Southern Virginia. She was the daughter of two high school teachers who taught at her high school. Even though it would seem like some traumatic experience especially for a teenager, she never did look at it so.
She always knew her parents were going to be her teachers from when she was young and took it all in her stride. While you would think she would have a lot of stories to tell about this time of her life, she does not. The only thing of note that happened was she was moved to another class from talking during a lesson.
During this time, she loved reading a lot and it was probably this habit that would later encourage a career as an author.
As for her journey towards publication, Eryn Scott had the usual ups and downs that most authors have to go through. While she loved reading, it was not until she was twenty seven year old that she thought that maybe she had it in her to become a writer.
With nothing to do, she had written a short story and was surprised that she found it so fun. She was lucky enough to meet people that had read her short stories who encouraged her to pursue the dream. Five years later, after some nudging from her friends, she managed to get a few of her stories published.
Soon after, she started writing several young adult manuscripts and signed up with an agent who sold her debut novel to HarperCollins in 2008.
Eryn Scott’s novel “A Crafty Crime” introduces a woman named Hadley James. After her recent divorce, she can finally live life on her own terms. She runs a business selling jam online and at the local farmers market. She also makes a little money on the side taking care of an old neighbor’s cat.
When she heads out to check on her friend Ansel, she is shocked to find Edith dead. Police investigations indicate that she died of natural causes but soon after new evidence points to murder. Hadley wants in on the investigation even though Paul the deputy who also happens to be her brother doesn’t want her in his case.
Ultimately, Paul agrees to let her and Suze, her best friend, into the investigation. They are to question neighbors and friends to determine if anyone had a motive for murdering Edith.
Meanwhile, Hadley decides to take in Ansel while Luke who used to be her husband’s best friend moves into town. To compensate for the uneasy awkwardness, she throws herself into the investigation to try to find out who murdered her friend.
“A Fresh Kill” by Eryn Scott opens to the Stoneybrook farmer market hoping to establish its future. For the first time in history, it has allowed sellers from rival towns to sell their wares in town. But before the sellers can unpack their pottery, art, flowers and jam, one of the men is found murdered inside hisa vehicle.
Hadley doesn’t believe anyone in Stoneybrook would be so callous to kill the sellers, She teams up with Suze her best friend and together they go undercover in the neighboring village to try to find the killer.
They are pretending to be on the search for a new home and it is not long before they stumble on some clues. They will have to cleave together if they are not to come to harm.
Meanwhile, things are getting very complicated as their friend and the florist are implicated in the murder. The deputy wants to arrest him even as Hadley’s ex husband is back in town starting fights and stirring all manner of trouble.
They believed they had a tough mission but what is waiting for them back home may be even more deadly. Eryn Scott writes a story with just enough clues and suspects to keep his readers guessing.
The dynamic duo of Paul the deputy and Hadley his sister working with Suze her best friend might just be the best team to resolve a murder.
Eryn Scott’s “A Sweet Death” opens to the discovery of the body of teen who had disappeared a few days earlier, leaving the community subdued. Meanwhile, Hadley James had been busy trying to find out what was the matter with Suze, her best friend and her twin.
They both have secrets they are keeping from her and she is determined to unearth them. Moreover, her grandmother is about to come visit with her parents for the Christmas holidays. With the birthday of the twins also around the corner, she could not have been more swamped.
Still, when they receive news of the disappearance of a young high school student, everyone drops what they were doping to try to find her. But trying to get the truth from her fellow students is no easy task but slowly they begin making progress.
It results in a combination of greed and murder, a stray car, drugs and money, which makes for a quick and entertaining read. It is an interesting look into how small things can develop into mountains of secrets.
