Evelyn Anthony is the pen name used by a renowned British writer named Evelyn Ward-Thomas for writing mystery, suspense, romance, thriller, historical fiction, and espionage novels. She has written numerous standalone novels in her career as well as several book series. Among her most popular novel series, there is the Romanov Trilogy series, the MacDonald series, the Davina Graham novel series, etc. Author Evelyn was born as Evelyn Bridget Patricia Ward Thomas on June 03, 1928 in London, England, U.K. Evelyn rose to fame in the writing field with her historical fiction books, Valentia and Far Files the Eagle. Both these books were set during the backdrop of Russia’s invasion by Napoleon. The later novels penned by Evelyn comprised of the espionage theme.

In 1971, author Evelyn came up with another successful book called The Tamarind Seed. It was adapted into a film in the next and starred actress Julie Andrews in the lead role of Judith Farrow. The story shows Judith Farrow as a functionary of the Home Office of Britain, and she is supported by Feodor played by actor Omar Sharif. The two characters are shown getting involved in a love affair at the time of the Cold War. Author Evelyn began her literary career in 1953 and wrote her last novel in 2005. Almost all her books did good business in all the places of their publication. Many of them were liked by readers in large numbers and were appreciated for their interesting contents, exciting characters, plot set ups, twists & turns, and an overall engaging storyline.

Its first two books were released again in 2015 with a different print format. Each of the books of this series features the chief protagonist in the role of Davina Graham. She is depicted as working for the British intelligence agency MI6 as one of its active agents. Author Evelyn has described Davina Graham as a person who is very much dedicated towards her job and considers it to her life. In addition to Davina Graham, the other essential characters mentioned by Evelyn include Ivan Sasanov, Edward Fleming, Elizabeth Fleming, Jon Kidson, Humphrey Grant, Tony Walden, James White, etc. The debut book of this series is entitled ‘The Defector’. It was released by the Signet publication in the year 1982, after its first release a year earlier.

At the start of the book’s story, it is shown that Davina Graham gets her new mission of protecting Ivan Sasanov, who is a top agent of KGB. Being his debriefer, Davina Graham is required to get information from him about the activities of KGB in the United Kingdom. She sees that Ivan Sasanov is feeling bored and lonely. When she inquires him about the reason for his sadness, he tells her that he is missing his family. In order to make him feel better and get rid of his loneliness, Davina decides to take Ivan Sasanov to her home. And not long after, Davina Graham feels she is falling in love with him. She was aware that Ivan Sasanov already has a wife and a daughter in Russia, and understands that he will co-operate with this British Intelligence only his family is taken out from Russia safely. Davina takes it upon herself to carry out this dangerous mission for the love that she has for Ivan in her heart. The impossible mission is filled with deceit and treachery, but Davina Graham moves ahead with the mission anyhow. Davina wants the mission to succeed, but knows it will mean she will lose Ivan Sasanov forever. Seeing the determined efforts of Davina Graham for ensuring the safety of his family, Ivan Sasanov also develops feelings for her. The two end up marrying each other with some surprising turn of events.

Another exciting book of the series is called ‘The Avenue of the Dead’. It was also published in 1981 and consists of Ivan Sasanov, Elizabeth Fleming, Edward Fleming, and Davina Graham as the central characters. At the beginning of the story of the book, it is depicted that after mourning for the killing of her husband Ivan Sasanov by the KGB, Davina Graham is asked to continue with her service after the threat of an international crisis is learned. Elizabeth Fleming, the wife of a British ambassador named Edward Fleming informs MI6 that her husband wishes to get her killed as she has learned about his trade for money with the Russians in exchange for some important information.

The Intelligence Service appoints Davina Graham to look into the matter and find out whether Elizabeth’s claims are true. Suspicions increase of the character of Edward Fleming after it is discovered that his first wife had died in a fire incident at their vacation home in Mexico and the cases was closed by declaring the incident as an accident. Davina’s search for the truth and her attempts to save Elizabeth’s life from the culprits puts her in a great danger. She follows a trail for clues from Washington DC to the Mexico City. Davina her own life as bait and traps a deadly criminal named Plumed Serpent, who gives out important information to prove Edward’s involvement with the Russians for passing out essential information was true. Davina help solve another suspenseful case with her determination and dedication towards work.
