Family Business is a series of novels written by an American author of contemporary and urban books, Carl Weber. The series revolves around the Duncans, a well-known family from Jamaica, Queens. Even though they may be prominent and successful, that does not make the Duncans unsusceptible from some over the top drama. Meet L.C. Duncan a famous car dealer in Jamaica, Queens for over than three decades. However when a recession hits hard, and the contention gets somehow tough, some guess that it is time for L.C Duncan to retire. Palm trees and some golf sounds like fun, but Duncan has some few tricks up his sleeves. Which one of his children can he trust to carry on the family business?

Then there is Paris, a charming beauty who can give any supermodel a run for her money, and when she walks in the room, all the heads turn, but it’s her anger issues and getting into trouble that makes people remember her. She is much more lethal than anyone gives her credit for except for her father. Orlando is the possible choice to lead this prominent family into the future. He has proven himself on the business world over the years- but sometimes the surest option isn’t always the best choice. Harris Grant is married to L. C’s eldest daughter, and in Harris’s opinion, he is most qualified and suitable to operate the family business. Now he only needs to persuade L.C. and also make sure no one finds out about the secret he has been keeping for years. However Harris is not the only one hiding skeletons in the closet, and surprisingly the Duncan’s has kept its own secret: a dark and deep mystery that, when revealed, will surprise the entire community.

Carl Weber began the publication of Family Business in 2012 when The Family Business the first novel in the series was published.

The Family Business

First published in 2012 by Urban Books, The Family Business is the story revolving around a successful family business known as the Duncan Motor Company. The story kicks off with the family figurehead, L.C. Duncan calling for a family meeting to discuss the transitioning of the business control to one of his sons.

The story picks up slowly and then speeds up, as the readers come to discover that what was once thought as a legit family business was just but a cover-up for a drug-dealing family with quite unique skills. For instance, there is Paris; the youngest daughter in the family who is sent to Mercenary School aged only 18 to train to be a professional killer. What kind of dad would do that to his child? The lousy dad of course- and it turns out that she becomes the daddy’s out of order little killer.

The first book in The Family Business series is an exciting read. The Duncan’s name carries a lot of weight, and as a respected businessman, L.C. has built his empire and with six children. Now that it is his time to step down or at least what all his children believe. But it turns out that the Duncan’s have become vulnerable and ripe for the picking and as the head of the family, it is L.C.’s responsibility to ensure that the threat is traced and eliminated before it causes a downfall to his beloved family.

Orlando is now the head of the family, and while he was not the obvious choice, Vegas is ailing, and until his return, Orlando is the man in charge. But soon Orlando discovers that his life needs to be all family all the time. Is he truly ready for what being the head of the Duncan family entails?

Skeletons in the closets have a way of finding their way out and catching you in a hornet’s nest. For Harris, L.C.’s son in law and right-hand man finds himself faced with callous decisions and either way he could be jeopardizing more than just family business. Will he find a happy medium for everyone in the family?

When business deals get sour, the Duncans finds themselves faced with tough decisions to figure out a plan to discuss out details with an old friend. As suspicions and doubts arise, it is time for the Duncan’s to prove that they really have what it takes to maintain the family business. But the big question is, are they ready and willing to unite as a family to do so?

Carl Weber has crafted a unique tale of the ties that genuinely join this family that boasts of dedication, love, all the while aligned with secrets galore and deception. The story is a vivid presentation of a family soap opera full of spellbinding scenes, intriguing characters and mind-tingling suspense.

The Family Business 2

In his fantastic fashion, Weber returns with the second part of his New York Times and USA Today bestselling series, The Family Business. In this second installment, he brings along a friend, Treasure Hernandez and together, they have woven an interesting, added drama and even new family members to the mix.

Welcome to the rich world of Duncans. During the day, these people are the most upstanding citizens running one of New York City’s most respected auto dealership, but by night, they are criminals who control most of the organized crimes and drug trafficking. Regardless of whether they are on their night or daytime jobs, one thing is for sure about the Duncans- there is never a dull moment in their lives to be found.

In this second book, Baby Momma drama ceases over the Duncan family as there is uncertainty about the man who fathered the Duncan’s sisters’ new babies. In the meantime, the family’s new CEO, Orlando Duncan, a man with his own baby momma problems develops a product that could finally make the millionaire family into billionaires. However he has only one challenge ahead of him, and it’s not the authority or the family rivals- but his mother. She is one of the most formidable enemies to the present day because she is making the family take sides rather than unite them. Can this civil war within one of the New York famous families be averted before it tears them apart?

There is usually a 2+ year gap between The Family Business books so I wouldn’t expect #6 until 2022.
