The success of the book series enabled it to be made into a musical show during the fall of the year 2012. It was titled as ‘Fancy Nancy the Musical’ and was produced by New York City based Vital Theater Company.

Each and every novel of the Fancy Nancy series features the central character in the form of Fancy Nancy, who is a young girl with great personality. She has dreams larger than life and adores all the fancy things around her. The dressing style of Nancy always extravagant with ruby slippers, boas, fuzzy slippers, tutus, and fairy wings. Her habit of using big and fancy words like ‘ecstatic’, ‘extraordinary’, and ‘iridescent’, and many French words known to her, make people around her believe that she knows many things at such a young age. Nancy often likes to redecorate her bedroom with several fancy everyday items like Christmas lights, hats, feather boas, paper flowers, etc. She has named her favorite doll as Marabelle Lavinia Chandelier. In her opinion, the members of her family are pretty much ordinary and dress in a rather plain style. Therefore, she decided to classes for teaching the art of fanciness to her family members. With their obligation, Nancy makes them wear ornaments, gaudy scarves, bows, and top hats. Seeing her family in such fancy dresses, Nancy always shouts “Ooo-la-la” in delight. The 21 Laps Entertainment and 20th Century Fox production companies decided to adapt the Fancy Nancy book series into a live action version in the year 2012. Shawn Levy and Tina Fey were included in the production team of the adaptation. In the year 2015, Disney Junior made plans of making an animated version of the series for television as well as a separate TV series. The other series written by author Jane O’Conner based on the life of Nancy titled ‘Fancy Nancy Chapter Books’, features an older Nancy who studies in the third grade.

The first book in the Fancy Nancy series was published under the title ‘Fancy Nancy’. It was released in the year 2005 by the Harper Collins publishers. The main story of the book introduces Nancy as a young girl, who is described by the author as being fancy all the time. At the start of the story, it is shown that Nancy believes in having more when it comes being very fancy. She herself remains well dressed always in a fancy sense and seems quite determined to let her family members know something about being fancy. For that, she always seems ready to teach them some lessons related to the art of fanciness. In the later part of the novel, it is depicted that Nancy goes on to transform the dressing sense of her smaller sister and her parents on one occasion. The evening that she does this makes up the enchanted story of the book and is described in a very funny way by author Jane O’Conner. The warmth of and fun of the novel can be felt till the last page of the book, which is the main reason why people from all over the world liked it so much.

The debut novel of the Fancy Nancy series written by author Jane O’Conner was followed by another interesting novel titled ‘Fancy Nancy and the Posh Puppy’. This book was published in the year 2007 by the Harper Collins publishers. At the beginning of this book, Fancy Nancy returns back to being fancier than ever. She learns that her family has decided to purchase a puppy as a house pet and makes very much delighted after hearing the news. By having a dog to play with, Nancy becomes certain that she will become much more fancy than she ever was in her life. She also believes that having a delicate, fluffy, and a small dog in the form a Papillon can become an ultimate accessory for her as well as her family members. But, when Nancy learns that her family members want to buy a large and plain dog, she becomes very much unhappy and begins to think of them as being rather non-glamorous.

Later, with her trademark warmth and humor, Nancy comes to know that the real fanciness does not depend upon just appearance. But, it comes from having lots of fun and being happy in life always with whatever we have with us. For expressing her feelings towards being fancy and having lots of fun, she uses a fancy and genuine French phrase, ‘joie de vivre’. Just like the success of the initial couple of books in the series, the rest of the novels also became quite popular and successful. Their success helped them to feature on the bestseller list of the New York Times and several other literary magazines for a number of weeks. This further increased the popularity of the series as a fun and fancy series and that of author Jane O’Conner as a noteworthy writer of Children’s Books genre.
