The Fatal series is a series of novels by Bob Moats the popular thriller and mystery writer from Grosse Pointe, Michigan. The author is best known for writing “The Classmate Murders” series of novels, which was his debut series of novels that did very well. The Fatal series of novels followed the same format as his previous series, and has had similar levels of success among critics and mystery thriller fans around the globe. The first novel in the Fatal series of novels was the 2011 published “Fatal Rejection”, that went on to receive much critical acclaim and popularity, that it spawned several more titles in the still ongoing series. While his previous series of novels had a singular character, the current series features two lead characters, who work as a team to solve a series of crimes in Washington DC, Washington. The lead characters in the series are husband and wife team of Sarah and Dave, which are some of the most effective even if at times comic characters ever to grace the pages of a mystery thriller. The series of novels are downright scary, showcasing Bob Moats excellent story telling skills that have made him one of the most popular mystery thriller writers ever.

The lead protagonists in the Fatal series of novels are Sarah and Dave who start out as boyfriend and girlfriend. Over the course of the novels, they transform to become a man and wife team that fights paranormal and normal crimes in Washington State. However, it is important to note that the first novel in the series features two different protagonists from the rest of the titles. The first novel features Derek Harcourt a New York novelist that writes an eerie series of novels about a serial killer before he becomes a serial killer himself. The serial killer is after Sarah Keller his editor, who is also a lead in all the other titles. When we are first introduced to Sarah Keller, she is an editor in Washington, with a murky past that threatens to put her life in danger. From the second novel onward, her life turns around as she becomes an amateur sleuth in Washington, working alongside Dave Chandler. Dave Chandler her live in boyfriend and later husband is just as fond of solving complex crimes just as Sarah is. Chandler is the more reserved member of the team as he always seeks to keep the news of serial killings or paranormal outbreaks and invasions to a minimum as a compared to his wife who is always raring to go. Sheriff Dave Chandler and his wife are involved in a range of cases across the country as they fight to keep their communities safe, even as their efforts often put them in danger.

The Fatal series of novels are full of romance, mayhem, murder, suspense, and humor as the lead characters engage in wild chases, evade, and track the worst of criminals, serial killers, and terrorists. The series places the reader in the middle of a cat and mouse game with twists and turns of plot that make it almost impossible to tell just who will come out on top. The novels come with unpredictable and unusual plots that will keep you reading while always managing to give a pleasant surprise. Moving from Buffalo in New York, to Las Vegas Nevada, to Washington DC, they mysteries come packed with intriguing murder mysteries and complex criminal plots. The first three novels in the series are all about some of the most unlikely and mysterious of serial killers. The author shifts gears in the fourth and fifth novel of the series as they turn to more scientific and paranormal plots. Despite the differences in plot and core elements in the plots, the series is all about Sarah and Dave trying to protect their communities from widespread danger. The first three novels are about protecting the society from a singular person who though sophisticated is limited in the number of people they may realistically kill on their own. In the last two novels, the author turns up the dial, as the killers become terrorists and aliens with so much power that the society could be thrown into crisis if they are not stopped. From aliens flying in to kidnap humans, to terrorists spreading dangerous viruses, to serial killers killing all over the country, the novels pack a lot of thrills and suspense, to keep the reader enthralled from the first page to the last.

In “Fatal Rejection”, Bob Moats outdid himself as he writes a novel full of humor, and intense suspense and thrills. Derek Harcourt the lead character in the series takes the well-trodden path by writing about a New York serial killer that is modeled on a criminal that had never been caught. The final straw was the rejection from the editor of one of New York’s biggest publishers. Sarah Keller the editor of one of the largest publishers in New York rejected his manuscript, and advised him to change the plot. Thinking nothing of the rejection, Keller’s had months ago decided to leave New York and relocate to Washington to get away from memories of her husband’s murder. But Harcourt has other plans for his editor and drives out to Washington. Sarah now finds herself front and center of a harrowing experience that brings up memories of her torrid past, while making her considered decision not to publish a wrathful man’s book a fatal rejection.

“Fatal Departure” the second novel in the series is an excellent sequel to Fatal Rejection the first novel in the Fatal series. Sarah Keller and Dave Chandler the Sheriff and live in boyfriend are basking in the glory of having apprehended the serial killer in Fatal Rejection. But now a new serial killer is stalking the small town in Washington state leaving bodies with notes saying they are gifts for the soft-spoken sheriff. The most terrifying thing about the notes is the warning that he must protect Sarah his girlfriend if he truly loves her. Teaming up with a bounty hunter and two FBI agents, they need to find the killer before he can come after Sarah. The novel is a fast-paced suspenseful novel that will grab the reader by the throat and keep them on the edge of their seat from the first page right to the last.
