Flint Maxwell is an American author who mainly writes horror fiction, but also dabbles in other genres. He is the author of the Jack Zombie series, the Fright Squad series, the Taken World series, and the Whiteout series. He is also the co-author of the Revelations of Oriceran: Midwest Magic Chronicles with Martha Carr.
Maxwell was born and raised in Northeast Ohio and still makes his home there to this day. He is married with a child and the family also has multiple furry friends.
The Whispers is the first in a series which begins with Ruby, Carter, Tommy, Autumn and Stephanie all barricaded in a bar while a storm passes through. The forecast didn’t call for any storm, but it is a big one and they need to stay put. Not long after, they spot creatures on the outside who are interested in taking just one thing: human life. Carter wants nothing more than to get to his daughter and keep her safe, but to do so he’ll have to go through those creatures. Will he make it in time?
The Show is the first book in the Whiteout series. Grady Miller is looking for a way out after a tragic accident at work. He gets his opportunity when a few months later he and two of his close friends travel south to Prism Lake. The plan to relax by hanging out in the sun and drinking and grilling out. However, a series of monstrous blizzards end up covering the area in snow and knock out all communications. The roads are impossible to drive on and suddenly what was meant to be a weekend of fun is threatening to turn into a lifetime of fighting for survival.
The Whiteout series continues with The Dark Winter. The book picks up after the events of the first book as the temperatures continue to drop. Each day the darkness last longer and longer, and in that darkness is where the monsters thrive. Grady and the others have no contact with the outside world and every day they live in fear. The days turn to weeks and their supplies lessen meaning they may need to make their way out into the wasteland to survive.
Fright Squad is the first book in the comedic-horror series of the same name. Abraham Crowley is a monster hunter like his father before him. Unlike his father, he’s not very good at it. He is a member of the secret organization BEAST where Abe and his two best friends, Maddie and Zack, are rarely taken seriously by their co-workers. The trio are on patrol one night when they get the chance to prove their worth against a mutated vampire. Their (accidental) success thrusts them into the world of monster-hunting that they have long been wanting to enter. However, they find that the job isn’t quite as glamorous as they had imagined. Something strange is going on and that is someone dark and magical behind it all.
The Fright Squad series continued with The Monster Games. The book takes place after the events of the first book as the Fright Squad is looking for work. The jobs they aren’t getting aren’t paying very well and are too far between. Then they are offered a lifeline by Fizzler, a giant swamp creature, who offers them a deal. They want the Fright Squad to take the place of the gaslings in the Monster Games and, if they win, they’ll save the creatures from extinction and get paid their weight in gold. The deal sounds good except for the fact that no human has ever competed in the games and lived to tell about it.
The Jack Zombie series begins with Dead Haven. Jack Jupiter has written about zombies for years and knows all about them. His mother dies in a freak car accident involving a half-eaten deer and his zombie sense starts tingling. Jack and Darlene, his fiance, travel to his hometown for his mom’s funeral, but what they don’t know is this might be the place of their funerals as well. A mysterious flu-like virus swept through the small town and infected nearly everyone in the town. Now, the people in the town are dropping dead, but not staying dead. Jack will bury his mother and then fight the living dead if he hopes to keep him and Darlene alive.
Dead Hope continues the Jack Zombie series. The book takes place six months after the events of the first book as the virus has now ravaged the globe. Jack and his group now travel from city to city in search of a place that they can call home. They come upon a safe haven in Florida known as Eden and think that this could be the place to settle down. What they soon learn is that while the place not be filled with zombies that doesn’t mean that there aren’t monsters there. These monsters are human.
Knight and Shadow is a standalone novel by Flint Maxwell. Years ago, Ansen Kane prevented the end of the world when he killed an insane king. However, instead of being praised for saving the kingdom, Ansen and the rest of his order were shunned. He is the last living gun knight and now has a price on his head that is big enough to make anyone rich beyond their wildest imagination. Kane decides to travel west towards the Infected Lands to get away from the kingdom and has been hiding there ever since. However, evil is rising in the capital again and soon he’ll be forced to pick up his weapon once again.
Maxwell also writes the Midwest Magic Chronicles series with Martha Carr. The first book in the series is The Midwest Witch which sees a girl named Maria Apple who begins to display magic abilities after her nineteenth birthday. What she doesn’t yet know is that she is not only a witch, but that her grandfather was a famous warrior from a planet named Oriceran.
