Fluffy, the Classroom Guinea Pig Series
The Fluffy, the Classroom Guinea Pig is a series authored by Kate McMullan (January 1947—) whose birthplace is Missouri. In 1969, Kate graduated from University of Tulsa, where he pursued a BSc in Elementary Education; in 1972, she earned her MA in Elementary Education from Ohio State University.
A former fourth grade schoolteacher who resides in Sag Harbor, Kate—she specializes in juvenile fiction and fantasy—used to work in the publishing industry when she started writing together with her husband. Influences: Mary Norton, Astrid Lindgren, and Louisa May Alcott Carolyn Keene.

Kate’s serialized works include The Dragon Slayer’s Academy, Pearl and Wagner, and Lila Fenwick. However, the Fluffy, the Classroom Guinea Pig is among her notable series.

In the eighth book Fluffy Meets the Tooth Fairy–originally dated February 2000—Fluffy is rewarded after finding schoolboy Wade’s milk tooth wherein, while returning it to him, the pig not only scales a building but also has a face off with a large cat. In the ninth book Fluffy Meets the Dinosaurs—initially dated April 1, 2000—the dinosaur-loving Fluffy tours a museum, where he watches extinct animals that evolves into his species.

In the tenth book Fluffy’s Happy Halloween—first dated August 2000—Fluffy is afraid of, and frightens other schoolchildren through, pranks at an otherwise memorable Halloween event. In the eleventh book Fluffy’s 100th Day at School—originally dated October 2000—Fluffy and the other children mark the hundredth learning day, where the pig wins the fun activities that include from counting 0-100, counting down 100-0, running up to 100 inches.

In the twelfth book Fluffy’s Funny Field Trip—initially dated January 2001—astronomy enthusiast Fluffy tours a planetarium by chance while chases a runaway apple. First dated April 2001, Fluffy and the Fire Fighters is book thirteen that is all about Fluffy witnessing firefighting at their class.

The fourteenth book Fluffy’s School Bus Adventure—originally dated July 1, 2001—is about Fluffy’s adventurous and eye-opening—including helping during a vehicle breakdown— sojourn aboard their school bus which is destined for schoolgirl Jasmine’s home for a weekend stay.

Initially dated December 2001, Fluffy Goes Apple Picking is book fifteen. The apple-loving Fluffy’s cage-mate is a beautiful female guinea pig called Kiss whom he mistakes, in a nightmarish dream, for a machine that runs on apples. He wakes up to find the sickly Kiss who stays behind while they visit an orchard, prompting Fluffy to improvise a way to eat the unreachable but inexhaustible apples.

The sixteenth December 2001 book Fluffy Meets the Groundhog is based on the Groundhog Day—a yearly February 2 festivity ushering in spring and associated with a groundhog’s appearance—where Fluffy encourages a camera-shy groundhog that is reluctant to leave its burrow.

Originally dated March 1, 2002, Fluffy Grows a Garden is book seventeen. Two schoolgirls—they have planted seed and root vegetables—prompts Fluffy to protect their school garden, where he differentiates useful insects from pest insects. First dated April 2002, Fluffy’s Trick-or-Treat is book nineteen; the candy-carrying Fluffy, who is in an acrobat’s costume, pranks children during Halloween. Fluffy Learns to Swim—originally dated May 1, 2002—is book twenty, where the self-declared “Aqua Pig” Fluffy wants to live up to the hype by taking swimming lessons.

The twenty-first book Fluffy’s Lucky Day—initially dated December 2002—revolves around Fluffy’s sojourn in Ireland, where he interacts with a sly leprechaun that denies a potful of gold to Fluffy who ends up finding a golden corn instead. In the twenty-second book Fluffy, the Snow Pig—first dated January 2003—teacher Miss Day promotes inclusiveness when she prompts the kids to build a snow pig modeled on, and to compete against, the snowman.

The twenty-third book is originally dated January 2004. Just as the title Fluffy Plants a Jellybean [in their school garden] shows, the germinating candy transforms into a beanstalk-like pathway that ends up in a dreamy castle belonging to an angry giant that goes after the retreating pig.
