An American author just recently making her name, the highly popular writer Flynn Berry has made an impressive debut. Releasing her first thriller novel ‘Under the Hollow’ she’s been turning heads in the industry and capturing the attention of both the public and critics alike. Marking herself as one to definitely watch, she has created a name for herself in a relatively short amount of time.

Early and Personal Life

Born in America, the writer to be Flynn Berry always had a strong passion for reading and writing from a very early age. Harnessing her gift for the written word, she took in inspiration from her experiences growing up and her surrounding environment. A voracious reader, she’d continually hone and refine her craft, something which she continued throughout her life until the publication of her debut novel, which happened shortly after her graduation from higher education.

Studying creative writing at the Michener Center she soon graduated having been awarded a Yaddo residency as well. This allowed her to practice and learn her craft, refining and honing her voice over the years, enabling her to articulate her style with a clear aptitude for storytelling. Over time she developed her voice, which led up to her creating her first novel, which was well received by a wide audience.

Starting out relatively young as a writer, she quickly got into becoming a writer full-time after graduating. Published through the Penguin label, she was to be represented by Emily Forland who works at the Brandt and Hochman literary agency. This then ensured that she was well on her way to becoming the full-time novelist she’d always hoped she’d become.

Still writing to this very day, she has plenty more novels to come, having only written one title so far. With a lot more ideas, she is planning to release a novel called ‘The Loyal’ in the near future as well, which she work to develop her pre-existing material. Continuing on into the foreseeable future, it appears that she’s not stopping anytime soon, as her writing career grows from strength-to-strength.

Writing Career

Writing her first novel ‘Under the Harrow’ in 2016, she quickly made her name as an up and coming writer to watch. Establishing her name, she fast found her audience, with large numbers of readers and critics discovering her work. With the book fast being recognized as one of the foremost additions to the genre of contemporary thriller, she thus assured her foothold within the industry and literary scene as a whole.

Only having written one full novel so far, Flynn Berry hasn’t put out any franchises or series yet, opting for the more stand-alone titles. Concentrating primarily on the thriller genre, she understands perfectly what it is that she is trying to capture as a writer. She is expected to follow this up again in the near future, with her book ‘The Loyal’, which also supposedly runs in a similar vein to the first.

Gaining an award already, Flynn Berry has been making an impact straight away, with her first initial debut release. Receiving the Edgar Award for Best First Novel by an American Author, she gained the prestigious award for the release of ‘Under the Harrow’. This then set her up as one of the essential writers to watch within her field, having impressed both the critics and the general public alike.

Getting herself representation through the Brandt and Hochman literary agents, she’s well on her way to becoming an important figure within the industry. Editing her ‘Under the Harrow’ debut novel is Lindsey Schwoeri from the highly prestigious Penguin publishing house. This now sets her up as a key figure within the industry already, with a wealth of talent behind, as many eagerly await her next book.

With a lot more to come, she will continue to write for some time yet, this still being the early stages of her career. There’s future books set to be published, including ‘The Loyal’, as Berry looks like she’s focusing on the thriller novel for now. Only time will tell, though, as she doesn’t appear to be finishing any time in the near future, with plenty more titles to come on the horizon.

Under the Harrow

Initially brought out through the Penguin Books publishing label, this was originally released in 2016 on the 14th of June. Marking her first foray into the world of fiction writing, this was the debut novel from Flynn Berry as a thriller writer. Establishing both her style and her tone, it manages to provide her readers with a clear idea of what to expect in the years to come from her as a novelist.

Heading to visit her sister in the English countryside, Nora leaves London by train expecting to meet her at the station. This isn’t to be, though, as when she arrives, she finds that her sister isn’t at the station, but still at home having been brutally murdered. With an unsolved assault lurking in the past, Nora finds herself now obsessed by the police investigation into the murder, as it threatens to consume her own life. Will she be able to uncover the truth? Where will the killer strike next? What will she find whilst under the harrow?

Various Writing

Being a graduate of the Michener Center for Writers, she has been no stranger to the written word over the years. With plenty of short pieces and ideas, she has built a name for herself, before fully starting out on her actual writing career. Building up her style and her voice, she has managed to harness her character as a writer, something which has definitely been reflected through her later work.

Focusing on her art and her craft, she has managed to create a niche, all in a relatively short amount of time. With a clear idea of exactly what it was that she wanted to achieve, she very a very singular voice determined to make her mark. This development in style can be seen early on and was instrumental in making her the strong and articulate novelist that she currently is today.
