Freya Barker
Freya Barker is driven to make her stories about ‘real’ people, with characters that are less than perfect, yet just as deserving of thrills, romance, chills, and some sizzling and hot sex in their lives.
Freya hit the ground running, receiving the RomCon Readers Choice Award for Best First Book for “Slim to None”. She’s also won the ReadFREE.ly for Best Book We’ve Read All Year Award for “Covering Ollie”, and was a Finalist for the 2017 Kindle Book Award with “From Dust”.
With her kids all grown up and out in the world, she has poured her creative energy into spinning one story after the next with a neverending supply of dented and bruised characters, all vying for attention.
Freya’s favorite part of writing is vanishing into the story. Exactly like she will do when she is reading something, except she is able to control what happens, more or less.
She began writing in January of 2014 without any idea of what would follow. That first book came out in August that same year. It was only meant to be a one time thing, however she learned that she had more to say and her passion was born. Writing is therapy for Freya, and through her stories she hopes to share a little bit of what it has given her: hope.
“Slim To None” is the first novel in the “Cedar Tree” series and was released in 2014. Since Emma Young moved to beautiful Cedar Tree, Colorado, this mother of one adult daughter, has worked from home doing some online bookkeeping and baking for her best friend’s diner to supplement her disability pension. Life’s been pretty good, that is until she gets an odd phone call which begins an alarming series of events.
Investigator Gus Flemming is hot on the trail of this bail skip with organized crime connections which bring him to Cedar Tree. Once he’s there, the focus of this investigation lands squarely on the gently rounded shoulders of the red haired and vivacious Emma, whose own physical limitations have done absolutely nothing to dampen her zest for life.
When it becomes obvious Emma’s at risk, Gus does not hesitate for a moment to step in and protect her. Call it a job with some incredibly hot benefits.
“Keeping 6” is the first novel in the “Rock Point” series and was released in 2018. Kerry Emerson seems to finally be back in control of her own life. Her failure of a marriage is firmly in her rear view mirror and her recent business expansion is a success, so she’s in charge of her own future. One that’s looking a lot better than ever. The sight of the tall guy, with the familiar salt and pepper goatee pushing the door of her store open, sets her hair on end. He does not really bring back good memories for her.
FBI Special Agent in Charge Damian Gomez is only trying to find a decent cup of coffee when he steps into the tiny story offering brew and books. The feisty, pretty woman behind the counter is quite the unexpected surprise. Not at all unpleasant, particularly since her finger that once held a wedding ring is bare now. Her boho style, wild hair, and silvery gray eyes hold a lot of promise, all of a sudden.
However when his office gets pulled into an international investigation looking into the trafficking of rare manuscripts and books, this straight laced SAC realizes that he must keep his distance from the woman that might well be involved. Easier said than done, especially since fate seems to be determined to throw them both together.
“Burning for Autumn” is the first novel in the “On Call” series and was released in 2019. Autumn McCoy accepted a temporary work contract in Durango, she believed that it would just be a safe to add a bit of spark to her existence. She might be getting more than she had bargained for when she finds she’s the target of impending danger. This outspoken forty-two year old is unprepared for that spark to ignite flames which threaten to engulf every single aspect of her life.
Buried underneath the weight of responsibilities, all that Keith Blackfoot, the interim Chief of Police, wants is to get back to the good old fashioned detecting he was doing. He gets this chance when an encounter with a feisty redhead appears to incite a wave of arson cases. Even though a visit from firefighter and friend, Roman “Chief” Proudfit, provides a bit of direction, he is left to battle with an invisible menace that fuels fires which could leave his whole town, as well as his own heart, in ashes.
“High Meadow” is the first novel in the “High Mountain Trackers” series and was released in 2022. An emergency call to pick up an injured stallion by the side of the road sends the new owner of Hart’s Horse Rescue, Alexandra Hart, into action. A recent addition into this area, she’s not impressed when the animal’s taciturn owner shows up. With his less-than-stellar disposition, he is the type of man that she usually avoids at all costs, unfortunately, he owns the ranch down the road.
But once the manhunt for a couple of escaped prisoners gets just a bit too close for comfort, Jonas winds up being a better neighbor than she’d expected.
The Alex that turns up at his ranch to help out with his prize stud’s recovery is not quite who Jonas Harvey had been expecting. This is the same bleeding heart that he met by the side of the road. He would prefer to keep a close eye on her, since he’s worried that she isn’t up for the job, however his High Mountain Trackers team gets called in to track down some group of domestic terrorists.
However the slip of a woman ends up proving him wrong. Not only does Alex charm his horses but him too, and when trouble comes calling she proves herself as a worthy ally to boot.
