G.A. Aiken is a very talented and humorous USA Today and New York Times Bestselling author. G. A. Aiken currently lives on the West Coast in the United States of America and uses most of her time writing and ensuring that her rescued petty called Pattie does not wonder away or love everybody in the neighborhood. When G. A. Aiken is not writing about her favorite topic; Sexy dragons, she is most probably writing about tigers, sexy wolves, or any other another fang-filled predator she can think of under her pseudonym Shelly Laurenston.

What Inspired G.A Aiken to Start Her Writing career

G. A. Aiken grew up in a family of two children. She has an elder brother; who was nine years older than she is. G. A. Aiken narrates that his brother was somehow famous when she was young, and he hardly spent any time with her. His brother only respected and took care of her as his younger sister and they only experienced passive aggressiveness in their family.

It was until when Shelly Laurenston joined high school that his brother started to be close to her. They shared little and were very careful not to annoy their mother who never condoned any aggressiveness in the family.

It was during high school that she met her best friend, who unlike her grew up in a family of four sisters. Her friend used to tell her stories about how aggressive and irritating her sisters were until she developed an interest of knowing what happened and what caused the aggression in their family. It is also through her high school friend that G. A. Aiken fantasized of the assault and later decided to use it in her future writings when she started to have a burning desire to write.

The Dragon Kin Series, How did she start writing it?

G.A. Aiken never started writing the dragon series with a grand scheme in mind. She began her first book in the series, Dragon Actually as a short story in her bid to kill time as she waited for her friend to read THE PACK CHALLENGE; which was her first novel published under Shelly Laurenston. Pack Challenge is the first book that she had actually finished, but had a lot of other unfinished books in her apartment.

G. A. Aiken aka Shelly Laurenston took into serious writing when her life turned around. By this I mean, when her mother passed on, and when her divorce went through. G.A Aiken was so much bored with her job as a managing editor in a marketing firm that she decided to kill the boredom by writing. She started writing as a form of leisure but what surprised her most is the fact that her writing flowed smoothly.

Due to this sudden interest, G. A. Aiken finished her first book after concentrating for some time and gave it to her favorite friend to read and comment on it. She was very nervous at this time as she was extremely worried what her friend will say about her writing. Inside her were strings of questions; “will my friend love my book?” “How will she react?” “Will she tell me to quit writing and concentrate on my current career or she will just love it?” All in all, G. A. Aiken hate the thought of her friend telling her to quit writing because that is what gave her peace, as she waited for her feedback.

G. A. Aiken became so nervous that she decided to write about a different thing altogether as she waited for her best friend to finish reading her book. She chose to write about what she loves most in her life; Dragons! G. A. Aiken loved Dragons since she was a kid; she used to have and still has Dragon Pendants since high school; when she used to go to the New York Renaissance Faire. G. A. Aiken also played a little Dungeons and Dragons when not at home and when she wasn’t watching the Dragonslayer TV program on her parents’ TV that had a Cable connection. She used to refer most often to herself as a “Dragon Wench”.

Shelly Laurenston aka G. A. Aiken figured out starting her first dragon series book entitled Dragon Actually. The book was initially referred to as To Challenge a Dragon and it was supposed to have some few pages, probably ten to twenty pages; just like any typical short story that will be used to pass time. The problem is the story continued to grow and flow and pages added up.

Fearghus, who is the hero in the family, continued to reappear in her mind, and her family showing one by one. The more G. A. Aiken wrote this story, the more she loved doing it. This kept her going and going each and every day. She currently loves all her series, but each for its own reason. Although she loves her book series, it is incomparable as the way she adores her dragon characters that had been in her world, since she was an anti-social kid in her home long time ago.

Why G. A. Aiken Chose the Romance Genre

G.A. Aiken loved romance since she was in grade school all the way to high school. She led Kathleen E. Woodiwiss’ Ashes In The Wind when she 11 years old and Nancy Drew’s Books. She then read other genres of books ranging from horrors, thrillers mysteries and fantasies, but always viewed them from the romantic angle. G. A. Aiken always wanted a lot of sex and more romance in books. This is the time she also fell in love with Neil Gaiman’s Sandman comic, which is still her favorite up to date. She has also read other comic books ranging from Clive Barker’s Hellraiser, The Alien and Predator Comic and the short-lived Nightbreed. G.A Aiken has also picked the popular Aliens versus Predator Omnibus that contained all classic comics in one book. G.A. Aiken quickly thought how she is going to combine fantasy, comic, romance and sex in her books that has led her to become a dragon romance genius quickly.
