She creates outstanding characters that keep the reader on their toes. Some of his work includes Love’s pride, Rake’s Redemption, Lakeland Boys, and Best friends series, to mention a few. Confronting a Rake is the debut in A Rake’s Redemption Series. After the Duke passes away, Devin inherits the title at a time when he is least expectant. On the other hand, Rebecca is a duchess in charge of the Duke’s three daughters. Once he finds out that he can’t marry off his new wards, he does what he needs to do before heading back to London. Before he knows it, he’s in Love with Rebecca and is soon attached to the girls.
A set of events make the new Duke realize that someone wants him dead. The mystery develops when several accidents affect him, almost leading to his last breath each time. What he fears most is something happening to Rebecca and the girls. He goes ahead, risking his life to keep all safe, and this time, Rebecca realizes that, at first, she was wrong about Devin. The two are attracted to each other but don’t know how to let it out.
Soon they find themselves giving in to temptation where one freaks out, and the other has no idea how to get more. It’s a union between a strait-laced governess and a handsome rake; opposites always attract. Devin has always liked being a rake most of his life; after all, what more could he ask for when he has whiskey, women, and fun? All his rake life when an unexpected title, three young wards, and a beautiful governess come into his life. Used to living a life of a rake, gambling and free from any responsibility, will he perform the roles of a Duke?
Rebecca has never minded what society expects of her. As the governess to three young girls, she is supposed to set a good example. The requirement is tested with the arrival of the new Duke. Will the two be at each other’s throats or be attracted to each other? As if that wasn’t enough, there is a detail that someone wants him dead. Rebecca and Devlin’s story is filled with humor, drama, spice, action, and suspense. Rebeca is a strong character, always taking care of those around her. But can Devlin’s new family finally accept her despite their different backgrounds?
The suspense builds throughout the book, with twists and turns distracting the reader from figuring out who is the mastermind of all the mysterious accidents.
The Reluctant Duke is the first installment in the Love’s Pride Series. Major Thomas Marshall returns home from war and is soon appointed the Duke of Bathurst. Being the 3rd grandson, never in his wildest dreams has he ever thought of becoming the Duke. The story opens up as Gwen is escaping an attack by Earl. She manages to escape and soon finds herself working as a housekeeper at Brookshire Estates. It doesn’t take long before Thomas notices her at a time when he has taken up his new title.
After owning the title, Thomas expected new issues that come with his dukedom. However, he never expected to get a new beautiful housekeeper, Gwen. The attraction between them is hard to resist, but the class gap between them appears too wide to cross. Soon a sweet sister and a ferocious aunt enter to take them out of the mess. The last thing Thomas ever wanted was a duke title; he knows it wasn’t supposed to happen. But why didn’t he want the title? After all, the title comes with several good things, like wealth, power, and prestige.
However, duty can sometimes dive a man into things he never planned and pull him away from the things he needs in life. The only thing that miss Guinevere needed was a play to lay low. Getting a job as a maid at Brookshire gives her a perfect place to hide from her haunting past, or at least the new Duke spots her. She runs from the Earl of Grainbell because she thinks she must kill him.
Thomas realizes that his household is gone since no one can pay them. Thomas desperately wants Gwen but can’t have her since he’s a maid. Will he fight the attraction and take her out of his mind? Heat and passion pull Thomas and Gwen closer even when those around them work tirelessly to ensure they part ways. They want to ensure she won’t become his mistress or his wife. They don’t know that Thomas is determined to do everything he can to stay close to Gwen.
As the story begins, Gwen is running through the streets of London fearing for her life, but soon it switches its focus to a war hero who has unexpectedly inherited the dukedom. Gwen is the sole maid after the former Duke’s staff left his service.
As Thomas gets serious about having Gwen as his duchess, he enlists his elderly great-aunt to help. The story is well written, and the narration is perfect enough to make you engaged in the story. The sparks between Gwen and Thomas are off the charts, and their histories will keep you hooked. The Reluctant Duke is a story of a man who, even though he was born into a noble family, never thought he would be appointed as the Duke one day. He was never ready for what the title came with, like the rules, responsibilities, or his attraction to the beautiful maid.
Thomas did not know Gwen had secrets and a past she preferred to forget. However, soon you’ll realize that life has a way of surprising people when Thomas shows his determination to make Gwen fit the suitable standards expected by society for one to become a duchess. Will she finally meet the expectations set for her and have a relationship with the Duke?
