Gail carriger was born in 4th may 1976 in Bolinas California. She is an archeologist and an author. She attended school at Marin academy. She graduated from Oberlin college where she attained her undergraduate .she went to further her education at England’s Nottingham where she attained her master’s degree in science archeological materials in 2000.she also has a masters of arts in anthropology with a focus in archeology from the university of California Santa Cruz. She graduated in 2008.
Her first novel is titled the soulless. It was published in 2009 by orbit books.it earned an award from john N Campbell for the best new writer. The book was also a nominee of Compton crook award.it was also a finalist for the best first novel at the locus awards. Locus went ahead to place the book on their recommended reading list.
Soulless is set in an alternate history version whereby wolves and vampires were included and accepted as functioning members of society. Alexia tarabotti a character in novel is a woman with several tricky problems. She is also still searching for soulmate. Her late Italian dad complicates her social life in a society with a rigid class system.to make the matter worse she has no soul and this makes her not to be affected by powers of supernatural being which only makes her life harder when she accidentally kills a vampire which had attacked her. Queen Victoria send an investigator to probe into the matter, lord maccon who is himself a werewolf. The vampire’s population is declining at an alarming late and alexia is the prime suspect. She is in a tricky situation where by she must solve all the mysteries while struggling to maintain a good decorum and a delicate social balance. Some of the reviews of this book are romantic times they rated the book 4.5 stars out of 5 indicating it as a “spectacular debut novel”
Her second book is titled changeless. It was published in 2010. This novel was listed on the New York best sellers list.it is a steampunk paranormal romance book. This novel is set in the alternate history version of Victorian era in Britain. Werewolves and vampire are part of the society.in this book the main character alexia tarabotti still has no soul. But fortunately she has a husband. She is now addressed as lady maccon. One day she finds her werewolf husband in distress. His disappearance entangles her with supernatural soldiers, ghosts and queen Victoria.in her quest to locate lord maccon she make use of her sharp tongue, keen mind and her trusty parasol to help her solve the problem. Her search takes her up to Scotland a pack of werewolf cant affect her since she is “soulless” thus making her unaffected by supernatural powers.
Her third novel was released in September 2010. It was titled blameless. It also became a New York best seller. it was a five book series and it continued with heartless in June 2011 and later concluded with timeless in march 2012.she was a guest of honor at fencon which a science fiction convention in Dallas Texas in September 2011.carriger indicates that PG wode house, Austen, dickens and Victoria travel journal are the ones that have influenced her on her writing career.
Her series of young adult’s books “finishing school” was launched with etiquette espionage in February of 2013.just like the parasol protectorate books this book is also set in alternate history version of the famous Victorian of England. During this period werewolves and vampires were regarded as part of the society. The main character in this novel is 14 year old girl named sophoronia. She is studying at mademoiselle Geraldine’s finishing academy that is for young ladies of quality. She later discovers that it’s not an ordinary finishing school in addition to dance, dress and etiquette her fellow classmates are also trained in the fine arts of espionage and assassination.
This novel was well received and it earned four starred reviews. It was in the New York bestsellers list in its first week of sale. Publisher weekly praised carriger on her ability to blend in commentary about race and class despite the light heartened fun of the novel. Other reviewers praises the writer for her ability to enable the character to appeal to both adults and the teenagers without considering her as a young adult audience. The finishing school series has four books etiquette and espionage, curtsies and conspiracies, waistcoats and weaponry and manners and mutiny.
Gail rarely writes short stories. Although like many other authors she started in that form. Now she dedicates most of her time in novels although she regard the short stories as the king of becoming a pro. When she has patience she likes putting backlog up for sales in eBook form. Some of her short stories are the curious case of the werewolf’s, the mummy that was and the cat in the jar. alessandro tarabotti coming just in around 8000 words or equivalent to 15 pages you learn about his character and furthermore It can be found in electronic form for the nook, kindle or in any other format except print.
Another short story is fairly debt which is short comic book. It has around 5000 words equivalent to around 10 pages.in this short story Gail apply her usual funny silly tricks such as tea saturated prose and food driven wit. It’s available in electronic form for the nook, kindle and other format.
Marine biology is another short story written by Gail. Its funny paranormal romance set that was set in the contemporary times. It has 43 pages. It is available in electronic form and it can be found in Amazon, barness and noble and smash words.it comes in roughly at 11000 words. It’s available for sale for only 0.99 dollars. The print version of the marine biology can be found in the mammoth book of paranormal romance the second.
My sister song is another short story by Gail. It’s a 4000 short story.it was written in 1998 and it was Gail first professional sale. It was not that long and it’s available in electronic form except for print.
