Gary A. Braunbeck is one of the prolific American authors who has written a number of highly successful novels based on the fantasy, horror, science fiction, and mystery genres. Other than this, he also likes to write thrillers and mainstream literature. Till now, he has written a total of 19 books, of which all the fiction books have been translated into multiple foreign languages such as Russian, Japanese, Italian, German, and French. More than 200 short stories written by author Braunbeck have appeared in numerous publications throughout the country. The most famous stories written by him are in form of mysteries which appear in the anthology series of Cat Crimes. Author Braunbeck was born in 1960 in Newark, Ohio, The United States. He has used his home city as the set up of the fictitious Cedar Hill in a number of his books. The stories of the Cider Hill are collected in the Home Before Dark and Graveyard People. The fiction novels written by author Braunbeck have helped him to win several prestigious awards over the years, including the Stoker award in the year 2006 and a Bram Stoker Award in the year 2005 for one of his books titled ‘Duty’. Other than these, his novella titled ‘Kiss of the Mudman’ won the International Horror Guild in the category of Long Fiction in the year 2005. Working as an editor, author Braunbeck has recently completed the editing of the latest installments of the anthology series called Masques, which was created by Jerry Williamson and Masques V. For a certain period of time, author Braunbeck has also served as the president of the Association of Horror Writers.
As far as his personal life is concerned, Braunbeck is married to Lucy Snyder, who works as a science fiction and fantasy novelist. The two of them live in Columbus, Ohio, The United States. Apart from his writing and editing professions, author Braunbeck also works as an adjunct teacher at the Seton Hill University, located in Pennsylvania. At this university, he is mainly involved in teaching an innovative program for a master’s degree in the subject of ‘Writing Popular Fiction’. One of the nonfiction books written by author Braunbeck is used by a number of colleges as a text for writing classes. Author Braunbeck is often involved in numerous seminars and has conducted workshops and writing seminars all over the country. The topics that he mostly teachers in his seminars include characterization, dialogue, and short story writing. Braunbeck’s workshops are regarded to be one of the top 5 writing workshops conducted throughout the country. The attendees believe that he can write as well as teach, and that he teachings get translated to the whole classroom. Whenever he has free time, he likes to engage himself in talks, readings, and workshops. He even gets involved in creative writing classes, book clubs, libraries, as well as several other creative groups. An initial book written by author Gary A. Braunbeck is titled as ‘In Silent Hill’. It was released by the Leisure Book publishers in the year 2004. The story in this book features the primary characters in the form of Robert Londrigan and Denise Londrigan. The book starts by showing Robert Londrigan as having everything in his life. His career as a newscaster seems to be on the rise. He also has a loving and beautiful wife in the form of Denise, and is also expected to become a father very soon. However, in a span of a few hours, Robert’s life takes twists & turns and his whole world is turned upside down. He becomes totally devastated after learning about the death of his newly born daughter. To make the matters worse for him, a strange and disfigured man steals the dead body of his daughter from the morgue. The following plot depicts that Robert Londrigan is about to start a journey full of nightmares, with unthinkable horror, mystery, and revelation. He is about to learn things related to his world and the secrets beyond from the living as well as the dead. It is also seen that even though the journey of Robert will be filled with terror, heartbreaks, and grotesque, he will not be permitted to stop in the middle. In the end, it becomes interesting to see whether he can survive and keep his mind intact. In fact, it is to be seen whether he can survive the nightmares at all.
One of the other successful books written by author Gary A. Braunbeck is titled as ‘Coffin County’. It was published by the Leisure Books in the year 2008. The story of this book is set in Cedar Hill, which is a fictitious town resembling the hometown of author Braunbeck. At the start of the story, it is depicted that the tiny town of Cedar Hill always suffers from terror and tragedy. It was settled for the first time around 2 centuries ago. At that time, a brutal mass murder had taken place in Cedar Hill, which had baptized in blood. Also, it faced the Great Fire very recently due to the burning down of a casket factory on one notorious night. The fire took down an entire part of the town of Cedar Hill with it. However, the people of the town seem rather unprepared for the what they are going to face next. Shocking murders begin to take place in the town of Cedar Hill, which grow more and more horrendous with the killing of each victim. The murders leave taunting clues that indicate a link to the past, as well as to an abandoned and an old graveyard. The book became highly successful all over the country. It was nominated for the Bram Stoker Award in the year 2008 in the category of the Best Novel. The success and prestigious nomination motivated author Braunbeck to write a few more interesting novels in his writing career, which also became quite successful. Many critics and literary magazines also praised him for his outstanding and dedicated work.
