Gary Ponzo is American author of Mystery and thriller novels. He was born and raised in Brooklyn but currently, resides in Phoenix with his wife Jennifer and his two children Kyle and Jessica. The author began his career as a writer over ten years ago as a writer of short stories. He realized that he had a big passion for short stories and in a period of five years since his debut, he had published seven short stories in several publications, and two of the books were nominated for the Pushcart Prize.

Ponzo’s first book A Touch of Deceit took him over five years to write and compile into one clean copy. The novel was inspired by his childhood experiences working in his dad’s candy store in New York. His dad was a Sicilian and was friendlier with the members of a distinct Sicilian family. Since the author was only 15 years of age at that time, these family friends would make sure that he was protected even when coming from work late night. Soon he discovered a side of the mafia that for many years’ people never actually knew. It was these relationships between Ponzo family and other Sicilian families that led him to write about a Sicilian FBI agent named Nick Bracco, who hires his mafia cousin to track and hunt down the world’s most feared and deadly terrorist.

A Touch of Deceit won the 2009 Southwest Writers Novel Contest in the thriller category.

These terrorists are organized and have set an intricate plot to send fear to the heart of each American. As each of the federal agency plans is almost failing, Nick takes the hard way and enlists his cousin and uses methods outside the law to unravel the mystery. Overall, the first novel in Nick Bracco series is well written. The author creates a protagonist that you will love. Nick is a well-crafted character; however what you will love most about him is his methods of dealing with the terrorists especially when he adds some mafia skill to solving the mystery. He helps Nick track down the terrorist who has been sending chills down the spine of each American. The main plot is well conceived, well crafted and entirely believable, the writing style flows well and connects each scene to the next such that you will find yourself loving this book as well as the author simultaneously.
