American writer Bella Forrest is a well known author of fantasy fiction, having created a score of science-fiction, romance and paranormal books over the years too. These have all mounted up to create a highly impressive backlog of work that’s admired all over the world, with her novels reaching far and wide. Providing a sense of escapist fantasy, whether it’s dystopian fiction set in far off future, or completely different fantastical landscapes, she’s always managed to pull readers in with her rich and inventive imagination. Not only that, but her characters are also something to be admired too, as she has created a number of iconic protagonists, many of whom have their own series. The series titled ‘The Girl Who Dared’ is indicative of this, having perfectly captured what it is that Bella Forrest has to offer with her fantasy novels. Charting the exploits of one Liana Castell, it sees her heading off on a journey, as she travels through a fantastical landscape, set in a dystopian world. Free thinking is a crime in this society, where all dissident thought is punished through the use of mental implants tracking all brain activity. This then leads Liana on a journey for her freedom and the freedom of the world around her, as she attempts to break free from the confines she finds herself in.

Lasting for over seven books, this series ran between 2017 and 2018, with the books themselves being released within quick succession of one another. With room to continue on from the initial series itself as well, there’s plenty of space for the series to carry on for a long time yet. Building an entire universe, the series is an imaginative and highly visual journey that almost immediately grabs the readers attention straight away.

The Girl Who Dared to Think

This would mark the first in ‘The Girl Who Dared’ series of books, with it setting up what’s to come as well, establishing the characters and the world. Originally released through the Nightlight publishing label, this would first come out on the 9th of August in 2017 to an extremely good reception. Introducing its lead character Liana Castell for the first time too, it really works at paving the way for the series itself, with a lot of foreshadowing too.

Defined by the stated number upon her wristband, the twenty-year-old Liana Castell is someone that must be careful of whatever she thinks. Given a rating, she is always on her guard, as any stray erroneous thought could send her rating down, as determined by the mental implant in her skull. With everyone having them implanted since birth, the devices tracks everyone and what they’re thinking at all times. Constantly prone to rebellious thoughts, Liana can’t but help think things against the powers that be, and that’s when she meets a young who seems the be a perfect ten, yet has plenty of bad thoughts of his own. Will she follow him to find out the truth? Can she overcome her own restricted upbringing? What will become of the girl who dared to think?

The Girl Who Dared to Stand

Providing the much awaited and greatly anticipated second entry into ‘The Girl Who Dared’ series of novels, this follows on directly from the previous. Using cliffhangers, they keep the reader wanting more, as they make for highly addictive and compelling reads, really getting the audience to care for the plight of the characters. Also released through Nightlight publishing, this would come out on the 18th of September in 2017 to much acclaim.

Set in the aftermath of Lianna Castell facing up to the loss of two of her own team-mates, she realizes she must persevere against the odds. Meeting Prometheus for the first time too, this catches up on a highly sinister plan, one that has been in the making for a number of decades. Learning the secrets of the past as well, they come to understand what happened with the nuclear Armageddon just three hundred years prior. Now they must face up against the powers that be once more in order to restore both order and sanity to the people of this dark and scared world. Will they manage to achieve their goals and save the day? Can Lianna Castell do whatever it takes to get the job done? What happened to the girl who dared to stand?

The Girl Who Dared to Descend

Using the Nightlight publishing outlet again, this would be released in 2017 on the 6th of November. It would also be the third in the in ‘The Girl Who Dared’ series too. With more cliffhangers, it once again makes for suspense filled compelling reading.

Lianna Castell continues to persevere in her ongoing quest to become the one true champion and ultimately save the day. With Grey and Leo becoming much more prominent characters too, the elements of the story are all kept as a surprise for the reader to discover. Lurking in the background though, is the ever mysterious presence of the shadow groups, along with Tourney, as they are set to make their intentions known in time. Facing insurmountable odds, Lianna begins to question if she can do it and if she really is capable of the task set before her. Can she find her one true path in the quest for justice? Will the shadowy elements closing in on her stop her in her tracks? What happened to the girl who dared to descend?

Truly a remarkable achievement, this is one series that wont leave the reader long after it has been put down, staying with them for a long time to come. Taking them on a journey, it manages to grab their attention almost immediately and not let go, with its gripping storytelling, along with its sense of scope as well. As a writer Bella Forrest has really managed to excel here, not leaving anything out in her fun and exciting adventure that is sure to entertain. Not going away anytime soon either, its lead character is also going to be remembered for a long time to come too, with its legacy living on.
