He has always enjoyed reading, but first really got into the genres of horror and science fiction at the age of eight years old. That was when he found the works of writers such as Richard Matheson and H.P. Lovecraft. Later on he would continue reading and also be inspired by the books of Clive Barker, James Herbert, Stephen King, and more.
James is the author of several series, from the Diary of the Displaced books to the Arisen series with co-author Michael Stephen Fuchs, his Thrown Away series, the Dustfall series written along with J. Thorn, the Fable of the Whispering Coast, and the Thrown Away 2 series.
Some of his biggest influences and inspirations as an author have come from authors such as Stephen King, Neil Gaiman, Clive Barker, James Herbert, Roald Dahl, Richard Matheson, and H.P. Lovecraft.
Glynn James is the creator and the author of the Diary of the Displaced series of fictional novels. This series first began in 2011 with the publication of the debut book in the series, The Journal of James Halldon. This was followed by the publication of the sequel in 2013, titled The Broken Lands. The third novel would come out the same year and is titled The Ways. This was followed by the fourth novel, Footprints, the fifth novel Where No River Falls, and the sixth novel, Redux.
The Journal of James Halldon is the intriguing first novel in the Diary of the Displaced series by Glynn James. If you love creative stories that are set in different worlds, check this book out!
Main character James Halldon is in trouble. He’s woken up in a place that is not familiar to him. It is dark and it is strange. The entire setting is scary and this seems to be the stuff of nightmares. Everywhere around him are seemingly endless piles of debris and junk, things that no one wants that have been cast aside.
The place is shielded from the world that most people know by intricate borders. Only those that are in misfortune and bad situations will ever cross them. But for James, he has not the slightest clue about where he actually is. Worse still, he cannot even remember how he actually got there in the first place. All that he knows is that he is alone without anyone there with him.
He also knows that he doesn’t have any water on him to drink and no food. On top of that there is no light so he does not have a satisfactory way to navigate or see what is going on. He scans his brain, but there is nothing there to help him. He doesn’t have any memories that he has access to that could tell him where he was before this or how it was that he got to this place.
What James knows is that while he may have no human companions, he certainly is sharing the space in the dark. There are other things there, and they are moving constantly around him in the darkness. He doesn’t have high hopes for these things as they make growls and while they might go away and disappear during the daylight, it appears that the daytime doesn’t arrive.
But while this may be an unusual situation, things are only about to get more weird. That’s because James accidentally ended up in a midnight place known as The Corridor. It’s not a location that was ever intended for humans to see. It was designed to hold a creature in a prison, one that has taken a toll on various worlds and destroyed them.
He may not have intended to be here, but now he’s got to get out. He doesn’t know if he will ever make it out of here and back to a normal place, so in the meantime, he has no choice but to survive. As unlikely as it is, he soon finds out that he technically is not on his own. There are souls here along with him in The Corridor. They are the souls of people who got caught up in this place, died, and continue to haunt it.
It turns out that the souls have been waiting ages, looking for a person to come their way. But even if they wanted James to help them, could he? This is a dark place and he doesn’t know all of the rules of this world. In this dark science fiction story, Halldon must do whatever it takes to make it through and survive. To do so, he might just have to learn about the place that he’s stuck in and maybe it will help him to escape it.
Can James pull off what countless others failed to do? Will he be capable of helping the different lost souls in this dark world known as The Corridor? He’s trying the best that he can, but will it be enough? Get a copy of this book and read this suspenseful novel to the end to find out!
The Broken Lands is the exciting second novel in the Diary of the Displaced series of books by Glynn James. In this sequel, the adventures of James Halldon go on.
James found himself in a place called The Corridor. After attempting to escape it, he was finally successful. He even made it out with some friends, Rudy, Adler and DogThing.
He is soon dismayed when he finds out that the outside world is no easier than the one that he just came from. He was able to escape the horrors there, but did not count on being haunted by them now that he was in a new place. Still, his memories persist even though he’s in the sun in The Broken Lands.
Will James get his memory back? What awaits him in this new place? Read this book to find out.
