Writing many stand-alone romance titles over the years, she’s also gone on to contribute to a variety of different series. Managing a legacy that really does ensure that readers will continue to read her books for years to come, she’s definitely not disappearing any time soon.
Early and Personal Life
Born in 1934, Grace Green would grow up in the Scottish Highlands, as she would take an interest in reading and writing from a young age. Living on a farm in the north-east of Scotland, she would begin focusing on her writing at the age of eleven, something which she would continue throughout the years. Writing extensively, she would later go on to live in North America after moving there with her partner and their two children.
Following this they would then go on to live in Vancouver, Canada, which was where she seriously began to consider writing as a profession. Focusing on Harlequin romance, she would proceed to make a name for herself, dedicating her time to getting herself published. Beginning her literary career as Grace Reid in 1988, she would later write under her own name of Grace Green, as her books continue to live on.
Writing Career
Starting out under the name of Grace Reid, she would publish her first contemporary romance book back in 1988. This novel would be titled ‘Black Lace,’ and it would be a straightforward romance novel with a completely self-contained narrative. Following this she would go on to release ‘Tender Betrayal’ in 1989 under her own name of Grace Green, and this would be another romance title.
Soon making a name for herself, she would become a hugely prolific author of stand-alone romance novels over the years. Contributing to a number of different romance series, such as ‘Daddy Boom,’ ‘Her Protector,’ and ‘Baby Boom’ to name just a few, she would also write alongside many other romance writers. Reaching readers from around the world to this very day, her work continues to resonate with many universally, as her books reach far and wide.
Tender Betrayal
Initially published through the ‘Harlequin Presents’ publishing house, this was first released on the 25th of October in 1990. Not a part of any series, it would be the second stand-alone romance novel from Grace Green, and the first one to be written under her own name. Really establishing her voice as an author, it would foreshadow much of her literary career to follow, showing her clear development as a writer of romance.
Returning to Scotland, Kyla, now a widow, is back with her son, after having left the village with a man that was supposed to be married to her sister. Now, trying to put the past in the past, she must deal with the fallout, as she comes to terms with the man she’s interested in, Adam Garvie, now being engaged to her sister Nairne. Hoping to put her future into perspective, she wants to deal with the past while making a new life for herself in Scotland. Will she be able to overcome what she did in the past, can she make amends with those around her, and what will finally become of her tender betrayal?
This a book where nobody is exactly perfect, but it’s them and their arcs that really making them compelling as people. Following their progress over the course of the book, the reader really does feel invested in both them and their eventual outcome. The story itself is also well managed with some interesting surprises along the way, making for something fun and easily accessible.
The Pregnancy Plan
First brought out through the ‘Mills and Boon Tender Romance’ publishing imprint back in June, 2002, this would be a stand-alone romance title. A straightforward contemporary romance, it’s story is entirely self-contained, with it not being a part of any overall series as such. Easy to follow, the characters are all engaging, making this a must for both fans of the author, and of the genre as a whole.
Faced with a seemingly impossible decision and task, Dermid McTaggart must find a surrogate mother who can carry his baby. That’s when his late wife’s sister agrees to help him, as Lacey Maxwell sets about becoming the surrogate mother of his child. Taking a year off from her otherwise successful career, she will have the baby before leaving Dermid back to her full-time employment. Can Dermid convince her to stay though, will he get the life he always wanted, and what exactly is going to become of the pregnancy plan?
The story is an engaging one, with an escapist narrative that doesn’t provide too much of a challenge upon its audience. This easy-going nature is definitely its strength though, as it’s a simple book to pick up, yet a difficult one to put down. There’s a lot going on here, as it definitely allows the reader to feel as if they’re a part of the ongoing action throughout, every step of the way.
