Grave Talker (Series by Annie Anderson)
Annie Anderson writes the “Grave Talker” series of urban fantasy novels. It’s a part of Annie’s “Arcane Souls” world.

Meet Darby. She is a homicide detective and coffee addict. Oh, and she is able to see ghosts too.

“Dead to Me” is the first novel in the “Grave Talker” series and was released in 2020. There are just three rules in Darby Adler’s life. One: do not talk with the dead in front of the living. Two: stay off the radar of the Arcane Bureau of Investigation. Three: never forget the first two rules.

With an ABI agent in town and a murderer desperate for Darby’s attention, things will get mighty interesting in Haunted Peak, TN.

Darby’s sense of humor and wit pulls you in from the very beginning. You are invested instantly and the more you read, the more drawn in you become. Her supernatural abilities and the circumstances that surround the murder are very intriguing. The deeper the reader goes, the more that they uncover. Then when you add Bishop into the mix you have this concrete story which you just know you’re gonna want more of. Annie creates this exciting read with a great mix of mystery and humor. Her characters are bold and complex and it’s obvious that you’ve only just begun to scratch the surface here. Fans cannot wait to jump into the next one and learn more about these characters.

“Dead and Gone” is the second novel in the “Grave Talker” series and was released in 2021. There are very few things worse than being on the Arcane Bureau of Investigation’s naughty list.

Darby Adler (in order to keep herself outta hot water) has made this deal with the devil, using her skills as a grave talker in order to help the ABI solve some incredibly cold cases.

However there’s something mighty amiss in such a task, particularly when a number of these cases just lead Darby right back to her hometown of Haunted Peak and some the secrets that are buried there.

Annie expands the world building and there are details added in about Darby’s family line and her powers. It was great getting to know these characters a bit better in this fast paced novel, and you keep reading, just wanting to know what will happen next. Darby is a kickass, snarky, and take no prisoners type of woman with definite Mommy issues.

“Dead Calm” is the third novel in the “Grave Talker” series and was released in 2021. There is not enough coffee or tacos in the entire world to deal with Darby Adler’s family.

If it is not her back from the dead mom, her death dealing dad, or her ghost grandpa, it is her long-lost siblings and their bid for power.

With the ABI radio silent and her siblings to track down, Darby has this major problem on her hands, particularly once the local coven figures out that her dad isn’t bound any longer. Can Haunted Peak, Tennessee handle their family reunion?

The novel is fast paced right from the first chapter. It takes off and doesn’t slow down for a second. Darby and Bishop have such fantastic chemistry with one another, with just enough smooches to make you swoon for days at a time.

“Dead Shift” is the fourth novel in the “Grave Talker” series and was released in 2021. Detective Darby Adler is about to hand her badge in.

Darby, after she inadvertently took on the mantle of Warden of Knoxville, has got a huge target painted on her back now. With bridges burned and the ABI coming for her, she will have to decide between remaining just a small town detective or leaning into this new role of hers. But it is not just her job on the line, but also her life. Who says that small towns are boring?

The story moves along at a fast pace with enough mayhem, magic, and tears along the way. The plot is both intriguing and dark, yet still takes some time to squeeze in a few steamy scenes.

“Dead Ahead” is the fifth novel in the “Grave Talker” series and was released in 2022. Some secrets should really just stay buried.

Darby’s Warden job (after she accidentally freed a demon, ticked off the werewolf alpha, and potentially incited a war) is in serious jeopardy. With the council up in arms and a literal god upon her doorstep, she has to get her life figured out and quick. If she can’t, then losing her job may just be the absolute least of her problems.

“Dead Wrong” is the sixth novel in the “Grave Talker” series and was released in 2022. Never make a deal with a demon.

There are two things that Darby Adler wants more than anything in the world: take a vacation, and track down who’s responsible for the rash of witch abductions in Knoxville.

With a slew of fugitives on the loose and an ancient vampire in town, her suspect pool is pretty vast. However Darby has this sneaking suspicion that she knows this culprit all too well. And if she is unable to catch him on her own, she may just have to resort to more creative measures in order to get the job done. Here is hoping that she doesn’t lose her soul along the way.

“Dead and Buried” is the seventh novel in the “Grave Talker” series and was released in 2023. Darby Adler is done. Done with ancient evils popping up every five seconds. Done with the Council. Especially done with Bishop, her ex-boyfriend. On the hunt for this slippery mage, she has teamed up with a Prince of Hell, an admittedly unlikely ally. This is the same prince which invades her thoughts, her personal space, and quite possibly her own heart.

However when the dreaded ex begins targeting those that are closest to Darby, all deals (demon or otherwise) are taken off the table. Darby is going to bury Bishop La Roux one way or another.

This is the seventh and final novel in the “Grave Talker” series.
