Greig Beck is an Australian author that is best known for the Alex Hunter series of novels. Beck writes stories with elements of action, adventure, fantasy and even horror. He has a background in information technology and marketing.

+Biography
Greig Beck grew up in Sydney, Australia. He had the distinct advantage of growing up near the beach. As a result, many of his earliest memories involve days spent relaxing on the golden Sands of Bondi Beach or surfing the waves.

Greig admits that the beach proved to be somewhat of a hindrance to his education. Many a day that the author should have spent in class were actually wasted in the surf and on the waves.

But Greig Beck does not regret the experience. His rather relaxed approach to life gave him plenty of opportunities to indulge his reading habits. Even as a child, Greig had an affinity for science fiction.

Authors like H.G. Wells and Pierre Boulle had a lasting impact on his young mind. It wasn’t just their writing style that drew Greig in but also their ability to create and immerse readers in entirely fictional worlds.

Over the years, the author also encountered the likes of Herbert, Koonz, and Stephen King, and his appreciation for suspense thrillers and horror grew. However, writing was never a consideration for Greig Beck, at least not as far as prospective careers for the future where concerned.

A time came when the author had to choose a formal practical career. Greig decided to seek his fortune in computer science which is what he studied. The author had a pretty good head for the field, setting his sights on the financial aspects of computer science and eventually earning an MBA.

It wasn’t long after that the author was drawn into the business arena. He secured various positions in software firms all over the country, though it was in sales and marketing that Greig Beck found the most success.

Greig isn’t exactly sure when writing came into the picture. But he remembers being pretty passionate about the activity. It helped that his work in sales and marketing began to call for so much writing, particularly when it came to producing brochures and sales letters.

Greig learned to produce the sort of attractive writing that could entice consumers to purchase the products he had been charged with selling. The author believes that he spent more than a decade as a writer in the sales and marketing field before the notion of fiction writing finally crossed his mind.

Greig Beck’s first novel wasn’t planned. It was in 2008 that the idea for ‘Beneath the Dark Ice’ came to him. In the beginning, Greig merely intended to jot a few ideas down on paper.

He isn’t sure how it happened but the author woke up one day to find that he had a completed manuscript tens of thousands of pages long on his hands. Greig himself will tell you that his first attempt at writing a novel was messy.

The spelling errors alone should have turned some of his prospective publishers off. However, someone took note of all the gems hidden beneath Greig Beck’s amateurish writing style and chose to give him the sort of shot that most aspiring writers dream of.

Before Greig could fully fathom his luck, ‘Beneath the Dark Ice’ went into publication and, soon after, garnered a following in foreign markets, having been translated into a multitude of languages.

Greig has watched some of his favorite authors rise and inevitably fall over the years in the wake of changing publishing trends, not to mention the deluge of new works that the self-publishing arena has pumped into the market.

However, Greig’s works seem to stand the test of time better than most. The author admits that it took him a while to acclimate to the process of writing and publishing a novel.

He quickly found that he enjoyed that initial creation phase where all he had to do was to generate new ideas and tell interesting stories. But even as an experienced author, Greig Beck still struggles with all the steps that follow, specifically all the notes he gets from his editor every time he makes a submission and the considerable effort he must inject into making alternations and doing rewrites.

It is always at that point that writing becomes less like fun and more like real work. That being said, Greig enjoys what he does. His books are thrillers, horrors and action adventures.

His goal is to leave his readers feeling exhilarated. Greig’s stories typically progress at a very fast pace. His chapters are also quite short. His approach is designed to keep readers blanketed in waves of tension and anxiety.

Greig wants his novels to feel like races that readers are running, so desperate to get to the finish line that they cannot stop reading.

+Beneath the Dark Ice
Captain Alex Hunter is pretty good at his job, and he knows it. So he is pretty confident when he is deployed to a cave system in Antarctica to solve a mystery. The cave system was previously hidden.

Then a plane crashed into the Antarctic ice and exposed its secrets. The research team that was deployed to the site went missing soon after. Now Alex and his commandos must get to the bottom of the situation.

They are accompanied on their mission by Aimee Weir, a petrobiologist that has been dispatched to determine if the cave systems have oil. Not only is Alex unable to locate the research team but both he and Aimee discover an enemy from the dawn of time; an entity capable of unleashing untold terror.

+Dark Rising
Alex Hunter and his team have been deployed to Iran to determine the source of a massive burst of gamma radiation. Alex’s superiors expected him to uncover nuclear weapons.

They did not expect him to encounter a black hole that had swallowed all the evidence. Meanwhile, Israel is getting nervous and if they do not get answers soon, they will initiate a nuclear strike.

For Alex and his team, though, there is so much more at stake. A nightmarish creature is on the loose and Alex must stop it before mankind suffers the consequences.
