Griff Hosker is a British published author of fiction. He prides himself on doing thorough research when it comes to the historical times of his novels, down to the way that the characters would act.
Hosker was born in 1950 in St. Helens, Lancashire. He went to Cowley Grammar School as a child, an all boy’s school. In 1972, he qualified to become an English and a Drama teacher. He taught English in England’s North East for the next thirty-five years. While he was doing so he wrote a lot. These were pantos, plays as well as musicals designed to be put on by the students at the schools that he worked at (there were three of them). One of his plays was called Shakespeare The Musical and another was titled The Journey, which was put on in 2000.
Once Hosker decided to take a break from teaching, he moved on to create a consultancy firm. He also continued to have a connection with schools, choosing to work as adviser to colleges and schools that were located in the north-east area of England. Hosker says that the line of work quickly ended thanks to the conservative government. That meant that in 2010 the author suddenly had a lot of free time.
Hosker was not used to not having work to do or that much time with nothing to fill it, a result of having worked since fifteen years old. He did not like the absence of work that he was suddenly experiencing, so he decided to use that time productively. He began looking into the invasion of Britain by the Romans and started to make a novel around the research he’d done. The resulting work would become one of his very first novels, The Sword of Cartimandua.
He says that making the choice to start on the path of writing has been one of his best decisions that he has ever made. He has since written countless novels and created many series of his own. The first books that he wrote are set in England’s northern half and take place in the first century A.D.
Hosker has many other passions and interests. He has an interest in learning about history, as evidenced by his books. He also enjoys going to check out castles in person as well as reading any historical novel that he can get his hands on. In addition to writing historically influenced fictional novels, he has also written a thriller novel titled Carnage at Cannes that came out in 2013.
Hosker also wrote a novel called Great Granny’s Ghost. The book is a KS3 novel and it was published in 2011. The book proved popular with schools, as a notable number of them purchased them for their students. The author also still continues to work in schools in a fashion, taking on author days and speaking with schools that bought the novel sets. In addition he has also chosen to take on public speaking done as a writer. He has also hosted a variety of award ceremonies.
Hosker is the creator and the author of the Sword of Cartimandua series of fictional novels. The series first started out in 2011 when the debut novel was released. The sequel would come out quickly after, titled The Horsewarriors. The third novel was titled Invasion-Caledonia and Hosker kept writing more installments of the series, culminating in the publication of the thirteenth book in 2017, titled Roman Courage.
The Sword of Cartimandua is the first novel in the historically influenced series of the same name by author Griff Hosker. If you have been searching for a cool book that is set in a totally different time and makes history come alive (with a touch of drama), then be sure to check out this interesting series for yourself and see what happens!
The debut novel tells the tale of the final Queen of Brigante, Cartimandua. She ends up being rescued thanks to a unit of cavalry that belongs to the Romans. The plot ultimately will show the reader what happens to the cavalry leader and what their fate holds. Ulpius Felix is in for a unique ride, as are the strong and unbreakable troopers that he commands.
Things start to go south when the Queen is murdered. As a result, her people quickly decide to revolt. But this is not good news for the Romans, because it threatens the hold that they have on Britannia. This chaotic uprising could mean that they lose their hold on the area for good. A lot of effort is made and the battles that ensue are intense. After much work, the people’s revolt is eventually quelled. The Roman’s possession of this province is preserved.
However, that does not mean that everything is all fine and dandy. Resentment still simmers, and the cavalry finds that treachery can be discovered all around. The pressure is intense, and the situation that the cavalry finds themselves up against means that they all become united as family. Together they will become as powerful a weapon as the Sword of Cartimandua, the mythical artifact. Can they triumph or is the local attitude going to prove too much for them? Read this book to find out!
The Horsewarriors is the second novel in Griff Hosker’s Sword of Cartimandua fictional series of novels. This story goes all the way back to when the Romans were first taking over Britannia and focuses on a cavalry that is called in for duty. The auxiliary unit is requested to do what would normally take a legion to accomplish for work.
All the frontier finds themselves under threat once an aristocrat is sent from Rome to lead the command. The man is arrogant and not liked well. The officers decide that it’s up to them. They will take on enemies, but do they have what it takes to sort out the potential traitors that are hiding in plain sight within their very own ranks? Battles rage on in Britain in the first century. Read this book for yourself to find out what happens and if the cavalry is successful in saving the day!
