Gyles Brandreth is a renowned English novelist, actor, broadcaster, and a former Conservative MP. In relation to his writing career, he is particularly famous for his works on non-fiction, memoirs & biographies, and children’s book genres. Author Brandreth has contributed several wonderful mysteries and fiction book series, including The Oscar Wilde Murder Mysteries series, Slippers series, Bruno Bruin series, No. 13 series, Tales of the Mouse Village series, etc. He started his career in the writing field during the 1970s. Initially, he used to write puzzles, jokes, words, for children and adults. Then, he moved on to write John Gielgud’s authorized biography as well as Shakespeare’s lipogrammic reworks.

Throughout the 1980s, author Brandreth was involved in writing scripts for the TV show Dear Ladies, that featured Bracket and Hinge. He even created successful a stage show known as Zipp. Author Brandreth maintains a personal diary. He published some of the excerpts from his diaries between 1990 & 1997 under the title of Breaking the Code in 1999, which he had written during his political career at that time. In 2004, Brandreth penned a novel based on Elizabeth and Phillip’s marriage, and followed it up with a second novel about the Royal Family the next year. He has written 6 books in all featuring Oscar Wilde as the chief protagonist. Brandreth has depicted Oscar Wilde as working with Arthur Conan Doyle and Robert Sherard for solving murder mysteries.

In the last few years, Brandreth has written and featured in many one-man comedy shows, and has also gone on tours to different venues. Author Brandreth was born as Gyles Daubeney Brandreth on March 08, 1948 in Wuppertal, Germany. His father was commissioned on the post of a legal officer there. When Brandreth was three years old, his parents shifted to London, where he received his education at the Lycee Francais Charles De Gaulle school and the New College at Oxford. Brandreth held the post of Oxford Union’s President in 1969’s Michaelmas term. He was also the editor of the university’s magazine called Isis. As expected by everyone who knew him, Brandreth went on to achieve a lot of success and fame in life as he was involved in the professions of politics, acting, journalism, writing, producing, publishing, hosting TV shows, etc. As far as Brandreth’s political career is concerned, he represented the Chester City between 1992 and 1997 as a Member of Parliament of the Conservatives. He is known to have proposed a bill that took the form of the 1994 Marriage Act.

In addition to his many careers, Brandreth always remained involved in social gathering and other interesting activities. He is a member and president of the Society of Oscar Wilde, which is a nonprofit organization founded to help increase the knowledge, study, and enjoyment of the personality, work, and life of Wilde. Being its president, Brandreth regularly organizes readings, discussions, lectures, and tours to the places that Wilde had connections with. Author Brandreth’s marriage took place in 1973. His beloved wife is a popular writer & publisher named Michele Brown. The couple has their home located in Banes, Southwest London. They have 3 fully grown children named Bent, Aphra, and Saethryd. Brandreth is looking forward to writing a few more interesting novels for his fans, and wishes to continue writing for as long as he can.

The No.13 series written by author Gyles Brandreth is comprised of a total of 6 books, which were released between the years 1985 and 1997. Each of the books of this series feature the primary character in the form of Hamlet Orlando Julius Caesar Brown and a number of secondary characters. Brandreth has mentioned the non-primary characters, mainly in the form of non-human entities. Some of the important ones described by him include ghosts, mermaids, witches, monsters, etc. The debut book of this series is entitled ‘The Ghost at No. 13’. It was released by the Puffin Books publication in the year 1987, after its first release in 1985. The main characters of this book include Hamlet Brown and a friendly ghost. At the start of the book’s story, it is shown that a ghost comes to live in Hamlet Brown’s house on a holiday.

When Hamlet learns about the presence of the ghost in his house, he becomes frightened. But later, he realizes that the ghost is very friendly. So, the two become very good friends. Being in the company of the friendly ghost proves very much beneficial for Hamlet Brown. He gets all his works done without any worries. The ghost helps Hamlet in a number of his activities, making him experience a peaceful and relaxing time in life. Hamlet gets an exciting and unique idea for his upcoming project work and he knows he can complete it very easily because of having the friendly ghost by his side. This book provides an interesting and exciting read to the readers of all age groups, especially children. It succeeded in finding a large number of takers from all over the world. The readers enjoyed the novel’s story and its characters very much. It ended up becoming a great success for author Brandreth, thereby, setting the stage for the other interesting books of the series. Many critics praised this book and appreciated author Brandreth’s efforts to come up with a unique story like this. Such reviews gave a lot of motivation to author Brandreth to continue writing numerous other stories in his career.

Another very popular book written in this series by Brandreth is called ‘The Monsters at No. 13’. It was also published by Puffin publication in 1997. The book continues to feature Hamlet Brown in the lead role, just like all the other books. At the beginning of the story of the book, it is depicted that Hamlet Orlando Brown face a problem for a long time because of his long name. Now, he seems to have become irritated because of it. But, this problem doesn’t look like anything in front of the bigger problem that he is about to face. As soon as Hamlet Brown opens No.13’s front door, he sees a big one-eyed monster waiting for him at the doorstep. Then another problem comes into his life when he comes to know that his mother is behaving in a bizarre manner for stopping the development work on his favorite actress’s grave. Hamlet seems to have become fed up of all these problems and prays to get relief from all of them. The relief comes to him, but only after he faces several ups and downs. This book was also very successful. It managed to grab the attention of numerous readers and eventually became popular.
