Hailey Turner is an American paranormal, science fiction romance and gay romance fiction author. While she is now a very popular author, she still works a day job though she has asserted that writing always comes first. She has been a voracious reader ever since she was a child and loves creating new stories as much as she enjoys reading. Hailey has aid that she enjoys stories with gritty relationships, lots of action, and a happily ever after. According to the author, her biggest influence is the urban fantasy author Tamora Pierce, who also wrote science fiction and medieval young adult fantasy. She spent much of her childhood reading her novels and they have been very influential in her later writing career. Another author that has been a huge influence is the Space military science fiction author David Weber. Right from when she was a child, Turner was very interested in certain types of books and was frustrated when she could not find them. At seven years old, she started writing though she asserts that her writing was terrible even though she found it a lot of fun. Over the years, she learned about focus, attention to detail, and many other things that have helped not only in her writing but in her day job. Hailey Turner published her debut novel “In the Wreckage,” the first of the “Metahuman Files” series of novels in 2017.

The book that changed Hailey Turner’s life was Malanie Rawn’s “Exiles: The Ruins of Ambrai,” which was his introduction to strong heroines found in complex fantasy stories. Nonetheless, while her mum was a huge source of encouragement and she fell in love with reading and writing as a seven-year-old, she never knew she could become a professional author. As a child, she always loved fantasy and science fiction and read a lot of novels in those genres. As such, it was a no brainer that he would write his first novel in the niche, competitive as it was. He found documentaries and non-fiction uninteresting but loved creation myths, mythology, and anything to do with fantasy. He always wanted to write a novel that had the common elements and setting that is found in most of the civilizations in mythology. Since he grew up in San Francisco, the queer community was something that was very huge and in everybody’s face. Since there were no fantasy novels with gay, pansexual or bisexual he thought it would make sense to write a series that combined fantasy with gay romance in the “Metahuman Files” series. As for the accuracy in his novels particularly concerning military slang, it has to do with extensive research, having read countless novels with military plots and watched dozens of sci-fi and action movies. Going forward, he intends to write speculative fiction though he currently has more than ten novels in the “Metahuman Files,” “Soulbound,” and the “Metahuman Files: Classified Novella” series. He has also contributed to the “Heart2Heart” series.

Hailey Turner’s “In the Wreckage” is the story of Captain Jamie Callahan, a metahuman who had been made into a paranormal creature after surviving a gruesome chemical attack. While his family hated it, for the past three years he had been leading the Alpha Team and working for the “Metahuman Defense Force.” He is required to give his all and hence it is not surprising that relationships are not something that warrants his full attention at the time. But then he gets into an alluring one-night stand with a strange man and that is what it takes to make him change his mind. His life becomes complex when the stranger reappears in his life while he is on an assignment to take down a terrorist cell. The stranger is Kyle Brannigan, a staff sergeant that only wanted to relieve some stress after a, particularly hard assignment. He never expected that he would pick up the leader of the Alpha team of the MDF. When Kyle and his partner are sent to bolster the Alpha Team that is dealing with a terror threat, he is forced to balance his duty of keeping his secrets and his desire for the handsome Jamie. They are two men just trying to survive and passion could be the end of their careers Conversely, following the rules will cause untold heartache. But then an attack on the headquarters of the MDF will force them to choose between love and duty.

Hailey Turner’s “In the Ruins” is a thrilling continuation of the story of Captain Jamie Callahan. His superiors at the Metahuman Defense Force do not look kindly to fraternization and for once in his life, he cannot help himself. He is willing to risk having Kyle Brannigan on his bed and his team, but when they are charged with going on a clandestine mission to subvert a criminal alliance, he knows things are going to be tough. He has never put his family name on the line but now he has to do something even harder – play the role of a disgraced army man, a billionaire’s son with a lover in tow looking to craft shadowy deals in his name. The only way Jamie can be with Kyle is if he keeps it secret from his superiors. Kyle does not mind that they cannot be seen in public as long as he wakes up in Jamie’s bed. But then he realizes what he is missing when they do pretend couple and he is thrust into the world of incredible social status and wealth. He is not sure he belongs in that world but he is ready to do anything to keep his relationship with Jamie. They are surrounded by enemies and now more than ever, the trust will be critical if they are to have any future together.

“In the Shadows” by Hailey Turner is the story of Alexei Dvorkin, a staff sergeant with trust issues especially when it comes to spies. He will work with spies when instructed to but he will not pretend to like it. But there is something about Sean Delaney the new agent that gets under his skin and he just cannot stop thinking about him. He cannot help but wonder what lays beneath the spy’s mask. When they are thrown together on a mission, Alexei is determined to ensure the safety of Alexei even as he tries to get him into his bed. As for Sean Delaney, his whole life has been spent as an undercover agent. When he is given the assignment to investigate a private military company for any criminal wrongdoing, he knows he has to use the case to get what he wants. But he does not know how to deal with his attraction to the youthful soldier or Alexei’s advances. Sean knows he should avoid Alexei but saying no to him has become an impossible task since they have already kissed. The truth can be deadly in a world full of lies. In the path of danger and the wake of betrayal, will they still be able to trust each other.
