Hays and Lyons Series
Hays and Lyons is a mystery book series by David Pearson. The series covers the adventures of detectives Mick Hays and Maureen Lyons as they work to solve different murder mysteries. Throughout the series, the author describes the various processes involved in homicide investigations in Ireland. The stories are set in rural Island and highlight both the good and evil the country has to offer. The stories cover the rot in the country while celebrating detectives who go over the line of duty to ensure that justice is served.

Murder on the Old Bog Road
Murder on the Old Bog Road is the first book in the Maureen Lyons series. The book features Detectives Mick Hays and Maureen Lyons. The story starts with the body of a woman found in a ditch in the dead of winter. The woman who discovers the body is out to visit her sick mother in remote Ireland when she comes across what seems like an obstacle on the road. Upon clearing a pile of stone that came from the damaged bridge, she discovers a woman’s body dumped in a ditch. The right thing is to call the police, but there is no phone reception at the scene of the crime and the surrounding area. The young woman opts to go to the closest police station and report about the body.

The local police officers are quick to drive to the crime scene. While the law enforcement officers are quick to take the necessary samples, they cannot tell if foul play is involved. The Galway detectives step in as the investigation intensifies. Detectives Hays and Lyons from Galway have no choice but to rely on their own experience to solve the murder. The two have dealt with many homicide cases in the past, and it only takes them a few days to start piecing all the details together.

The list of suspects grows as the investigation intensifies. There is a long list of questionable characters, and then there are a few who seem like they had enough reasons to kill the woman. A good number of these suspects are not willing. It is also clear that the young woman who reported the body is not telling the entire truth when interviewed. Is it possible that she is the culprit the detectives are looking for? What about the young woman’s brother who suddenly disappeared and police have to mount a search for her? Is it possible that he killed her when their relationship turned sour?

Murder on The Old Bog Road is a thrilling piece filled with interesting twists and turns. The author has done a great job of developing the characters. The plot is quite solid, and it is easy for the reader to follow the directives as they complete their investigations. There is also a romance subplot that will come as a pleasant surprise. If you are looking for an easy read you can enjoy on a lazy afternoon, this book is ideal. The story is short, which means that you can read the entire book in one sitting. Aside from keeping you engaged, this book will also teach you a thing or two about Ireland and the law enforcement agencies in this region.

Murder at The Old Cottage

Murder at The Old Cottage is the second book in the Hays and Lyons series. This book involves the death of an old pensioner who is found dead on an armchair inside his cottage. A health worker discovers the body. When the local Garda conduct their investigation, it is clear that the death was not natural. There are enough signs that the man was tortured before he died. The house had also been ransacked.

The Galway detectives get involved when the cause of death cannot immediately be established. The detectives team up with pathology to identify the cause and motive behind the killing. After the primary investigations, the law enforcement officers discover that nothing was taken from the house. It does not help that little if any traces of the killers are left in the crime scene. So why did the older man have to endure such a painful death?

Once more, you get to meet the talented duo as the detectives go about their work. Detective Hays and Lyons once again show their talent in matters of homicide. Hats and Lyons are going to use new technology and combine it with their detective instincts to solve the brutal murder. The investigative team that these two come up with will leave no stone unturned until the truth is revealed. In the end, their work will be the envy of Ireland. The duo’s leadership skills and a knack for utilizing the best expertise from each member while being in the right place at the right time will surely set them apart. This investigation will not only solve the old pensioner’s murder, but it will also show a dark side of Ireland that many do not know about. Get a glimpse of the criminal underworld and the people who are not afraid to kill to get what they want.

Get to enjoy a gripping murder story set in the beautiful Ireland rural landscape, among other notable tourist destinations in this region. Aside from the setting, you will also get a chance to see a talented detective duo in action and the numerous challenges that the team will encounter in the course of their investigation. The two detectives are lovable, and the supporting characters are just as interesting. From the detectives to the health workers who discover the body, the characters are anything but ordinary. The author has done a great job of introducing interesting twists when you least expect to mean that you will have a hard time putting the book down.
