Heather Blanton is an award-winning and bestselling author that is best known for writing the “Romance in the Rockies” series of novels. She started out as a journalist and has been known to weave real history into many of her fictional storylines.

Heather has also been known to write stories that explore the museums and ghost towns of the American West. She gets her experience from her varied travels in the West.

She has ridden horses in the Rockies, traversed the Oregon Trail on foot, held an outlaw’s note, and climbed to the top of Independence Rock.
The author also grew up on a steady diet of John Wayne, Gunsmoke, and Bonanza Western, while she lived in the Western North Carolina Mountains.
Heather published “A Lady in Defiance,” her debut novel and the first of the “Romance in the Rockies” series of novels in 2013.

She usually interacts with her fans through her entertaining, sassy, and sometimes irreverent newsletter. Heather also has membership in several writer organizations including American Christian Fiction Writers and Western Writers of America.

The author Heather Blanton has said that she loves writing about feisty women making their way in the Wild West as they try to hold on to their faith and find love.

She is lucky that she is blessed with a wide expansive heart, old-soul wisdom, and natural storytelling ability.

Growing up, Heather’s hero was her father as he could shoot a hole in a quarter and had the quickest draw of anyone she knew.

He was quite impressive to the young Blanton and hence whenever they would watch Westerns together, she always thought, my father could do that.

When she was just five years old, her father taught her to shoot and it was also at this time that she began writing short stories. In the latter endeavor, she had a lot of help from her mother that was then an editor.

She used to dream of the Western wilds and particularly the Rockies and this perhaps would inspire her to write westerns. Heather was quite the reader and idolized Francine Rivers and Louis L’Amour who have also been highly influential.

In 2012, Heather Blanton was contacted by a Christian Publishing house that wanted to publish the manuscript for “A Lady in Defiance” her debut novel.
She was elated and the manuscript went through the process until it ended up in the Contract Meeting stage. All that was left was for the publisher to either turn her down or give their offer.

She was unfortunate enough to be turned down and it felt like being kicked in the shin by a donkey. It was a tough moment but she turned to God as she knew he had a good plan for her writing.

While she was talking to the publisher she had approached her agent and inquired if it was possible to publish the manuscript for charity. All she wanted was to sell at least 200 copies.

By the time she was rejected by the publisher, she had moved more than 2000 copies. Turns out that this was the reason the publisher turned her down as they believed she had maxed out, which was why she was coming to them.

That very year, her novel sold more than 8,000 copies, and over the years, more than 40,000 copies.

“A Lady in Defiance” by Heather Blanton introduces Charles McIntyre, a man who owns everyone and everything in Defiance, the godless mining town.
When three southern and very Christian sisters come to town and find themselves all alone and stranded, he offers to let the, stay at his place. He is fascinated by Naomi the middle sister who he thinks could be quite the conquest.

However, his potential conquest is still angry with God for taking her husband and leaving her a widow. She is in Defiance because she did not want to be left all alone when her sisters were leaving.

She does not want anything to do with the prostitute keeping and saloon owning Mr. McIntyre. But it does seem God had destined them to come together as he does seem to have quite the cryptic plan.

The revelation of the plan will be astounding, particularly for the rebellious residents of Defiance.

Loosely based on a true story, the work is set in Colorado’s San Juan Mountains. Even though it is in essence a romance, it is also something of an ensemble that explores the relationships of the three siblings and how they relate with the residents of the mining town.
