Highland Bound is a series of historical erotic time travel romance books by American author Eliza Knight. The series is set in 16th century Scotland, and is a narrative of Emma Gordon, a woman who travels back in time and gets involved with a Scottish lord, Laird Logan Grant. First Emma Gordon finds herself in a terrible marriage. Emma got married while still very young to an arrogant and abusive husband. While vacationing in the Scottish highland, she finally feels that she has had enough and decides to leave, reasoning that if she did not leave immediately, she might never again have the will to do it. Drawing up all her strength of will, she gets into a cab and deserts her husband. While she is not sure of her destination, she sees Castle Gealach outside of her cab window, and feels a strange tag to get out of the cab and check out the place. Knowing her husband could come for her at any time she leaves the cab and goes into the castle. She finds that she has been transported back in time to 16th century Scotland and is now at the caste of the intimidating but strikingly handsome Laird Logan Grant.
The Highland Bound series consists of six titles with a Box set composed of the first three books in the series. So popular among erotic historical romance novel fans, the novels were eventually published in audiobook format. What makes the series so popular is that Eliza Knight manages to capture the feelings and emotions of Emma Gordon so artfully, that the reader immediately feels a connection with her. She also portrays the Laird Logan as such a heroic man that anyone that reads the book, feels it is right that he and Gordon should end up together and live happily ever after. With the quality of the novels improving with each novel she published in the Highland Bound series, Knight established herself as one of the best writers of historical romance novels ever.
Emma and Logan have the most amazing chemistry. They are drawn to each other from the moment they meet. Even though Logan does not know Emma, he takes her into his castle in one of the most selfless acts of chivalry. As they get to know each other they face many issues, the first being that Emma is disoriented after realizing that she is now in a different time without knowing how she got there. Moreover, Emma has difficulties reconciling herself to Logan’s kindness and learning to trust herself given that she is heavily scarred from her abusive marriage. What makes the Highland Bound series so amazing is Logan Grant’s exceptional masculinity and chivalry. While he is all brawny, it is clear from the outset that he is a man that would give his love and selflessly protect Emma unlike her estranged husband. While she initially has reservations, Emma feels a strong desire to get to know the mysterious Logan, even as she longs to return to the 21st century. By agreeing to try out Logan’s proposal, she sets out on a passionate and daring affair, which will not only satisfy her curiosity but also rock her very being. As their spirits are transformed, souls bared and secrets uncovered, they know that they have reached a point of no return.
Behind the Plaid
Behind the Plaid is the first novel in the Highland Bound series that introduces us to the Emma Gordon and Laird Logan Grant narrative. It begins with Emma Gordon’s escape from a bland and abusive marriage that had left her with no sense of self-worth. In a bid for independence, she abandons he husband while they are on a trip in Scotland. Only thing is that she travels back in time to find herself in a 16th century castle belonging to the enigmatic, intimidating, and handsome Laird Logan Grant. However, this world is very different from the one she has left behind. She now has to contend with danger, duplicity, and the intensity of a handsome man while seeking a way to go back to the world she knows.
Meanwhile, her benefactor the handsome lord Logan Grant is dealing with dark secrets from the past that threaten to tear the country apart. He is conflicted as he longs for harmony yet he is also consumed by a need to be in control. He is completely disarmed by Emma’s calm, spirit, and beauty, finally confessing his feelings to her. However, he tells her that any romantic involvement between them has to be on his own terms. Even so, he promises her that he would give her erotic encounters that would quench her overwhelming desires, and change both their lives forever. While at first reluctant to take him up on his offer, her longing for the mysterious lord only keeps growing stronger even as she longs to go back to the modern world that she came from. Curious to satisfy her curiosity, she agrees to the Laird’s proposal and is soon in the throes of a passionate affair that she never believed could exist. They are soon pouring out their souls and secrets as none of them can no longer keep anything to themselves.
Bared to the Laird
In the second novel of the Highland Bound series, Emma Gordon finds herself overwhelmed by her new affair and passion that she has for the Laird. She believes that she needs to go back to her world if she is to have any hope of putting an end to the strong feelings that threaten to consume her very being. When she hears that a magical stone on top of the ridge behind Lake Loch Ness has magical powers, she escapes from the castle. She heads for the ridge, away from Logan’s intensity, manliness, and her desire for him that have held her captive.
When he realizes that Emma has left the castle Laird Logan goes into a rage, terrified that he is going to lose her. He vows to find her and skillfully punish her for exposing his adoration and fascination with her. Their passions reignite and are taken to a new level of self-discovery and sensuality, when they reunite. However, they are still fighting their inner demons with traitors and angered clans still posing a threat to their love affair. Going public about how they feel about each other will not only be cataclysmic on a personal level but could also destroy the realm in one stroke. It is a double-edged sword that leaves them undecided on what action to take. One option presents irrevocable damage, while the other decadent and sweet surrender. Will giving herself to the highlander forever alter the course of history?
