M. Z. Kelly writes the “Hollywood Alphabet” series of mystery novels. Each of the titles of the books start with the next letter of the alphabet from the last. The series began in the year 2014, when “Hollywood Assassin” was released.

Kate Sexton, a detective with the Los Angeles Police Department, stars in the series. With her is a canine partner, named Bernie. She also has her British best friend, named Natalie.

“Hollywood Assassin” is the first novel in the “Hollywood Alphabet” series, which was released in the year 2014. Things could always be worse for Kate Sexton. Her ex-husband cheated on her and the video of it made the rounds through the whole department, and is broke and has to live above an appliance store with Bernie, her dog partner and sexual predator. Her mom hallucinates about having sex with a dead president, and her British friend Natalie has a vocabulary that would make Howard Stern blush.

Things could always be worse. For example, Kate could be stalked by a sadistic killer as she tries to solve a three decade old murder and save a cop’s reputation and life who is wanted for the crime. Possibly things couldn’t be any worse, because this is Kate’s life at the moment.

Will Kate be able to elude the killer, solve the case, make sure Bernie’s sexual wanderlust is held in check, save a cop from death row, keep Natalie under control, and find love once again?

This novel features some excellent main characters, two of which will keep you laughing. M. Z. Kelly does a great job of hooking the reader, right from the start and never lets go. All of the turns and twists to the story keep you turning the pages, eager to find out what is going to happen next in the story. This is a really enjoyable book that makes some readers ready to return for more from this series.

“Hollywood Blood” is the second novel in the “Hollywood Alphabet” series, which was released in the year 2014. Kate Sexton has some real problems. She has just gotten a promotion to the department’s elite Robbery Homicide Division, with Bernie (her dog partner), which is a first for the unit. Things quickly go downhill after a famous singer’s manager is murdered during one of Kate’s mom’s psychic séances.

Kate tries to balance the troubled relationship with an ex-cop as well as her mom, and things start to get even crazier as the killer strikes more and more. Then the killer begins to target those that are closest to the investigation.

While she tracks the killer, things start to get even more odd as Kate finds out the suspect in all the killings is a leader of a rather blood thirsty cult who wants revenge. To make things worse, Bernie’s sexual wanderlust has gotten out of control, Kate’s boss believes she is leaking details of the murders to the press, and Natalie (Kate’s best friend) is meddling in the case.

This is another excellent story about Kate and Bernie. Due to M.Z. Kelly’s law enforcement background, you truly feel as though you are walking along with Kate while she hunts down the killer. Kelly does a great job of keeping you guessing throughout. The book does exactly what an excellent thriller does and all at a fast pace.

“Hollywood Crazy” is the third novel in the “Hollywood Alphabet” series, which was released in the year 2014. If you believe that things are crazy in Hollywood, just wait. They are about to get crazier. It might be due to the fact that Natalie has a boyfriend that is both brilliant and deranged. Possibly it is because Kate is living with roommates and has a landlord that would make the Addams family seem rather tame in comparison. Possibly it is because Bernie is going to pay for some serious mischief. It could be that Kate’s love life is full of some wild twists and turns.

These are crime and mystery novels, and the humor only adds to how enjoyable the novels are. As always, the books are cram packed with a lot of twists and turns to them, leaving you unsure who the killer is until the reveal. Kate is an excellent character that will keep you laughing out loud because of her sense of humor. The entire cast of characters has strong personalities.

“Hollywood Dirty” is the fourth novel in the “Hollywood Alphabet” series, which was released in the year 2014. Kate and Bernie are trying to solve one of Hollywood’s biggest crimes in history. Jezzie Rose (an Olympic gold medalist and America’s sweetheart) was found dead and dumped in an alleyway. Everything looks like her ex-boyfriend is the killer, but the case quickly takes an unexpected turn after Kate thinks someone else is involved.

LAPD’s new chief of police complicates matters by allowing the media into the case. Kate’s love life is now on the rocks, and Natalie and Mo insist on meddling in the case, only making things worse. Not to mention Nana, Kate’s sexually obsessed elderly landlord, has recently taken in an Elvis impersonator that is clinically depressed. To top things off, Kate is bound and determined to get to the heart of a three decade old family secret that involves betrayal, murder, and lies.

Will Kate be able to find the killer, deal with Elvis and Nana’s lust filled relationship, keep her friends in check, and find love? Will she be able to find out the truth about her family’s secrets?

M. Z. Kelly has delivered another excellent book with a well written story line. He is one of the best at putting different twists and turns in the plot that keep you guessing. Not to mention how he adds just the right amount of humor to keep things light.
